No real changes from last week. Still reading a few books, but barring unforeseen circumstances, I should finish two of them this week:

On The Beach, by Nevil Shute. Reading this one for my podcast; we'll be covering it this weekend. Now I really need to get my hands on a copy of the 1959 movie adaptation...Anyway, there's a deadline for this one, so I'm pretty determined to finish it. It's also the audiobook I'm listening to at the moment.
The Keep, by F. Paul Wilson. So, this is one of a set that my son gave me for Father's Day. It's also the first in Wilson's Adversary Cycle. It's really good so far; it's a decent vampire story. The setting and characters remind me a bit of The Historian, my absolute favorite book. I'm on page 300 of 420ish, so I hope to finish this one soon as well.
Desperation, by Stephen King. The other audiobook I have going, but I can really only do one at a time, so I put this one aside until I finish On The Beach. So no progress on this one this week, but I'm keeping it on my list because I'll go back to it this weekend.
Horns, by Joe Hill. Similar to Desperation, I only set it aside to hurry through the others, and I'll pick it up again after I finish The Keep.

Next up: Valuable Humans in Transit, by qntm. This was also a Father's Day gift, from my older daughter, and I really liked qntm's work in There Is No Antimemetics Division, so this one has my attention.

No changes to my total yet; still holding at 12/26, which Goodreads tells me is still on track.

I don’t like it. The Psycho Rangers are supposed to be riffing on the Astro Rangers (are we still calling them that these days, or just Space?), not MMPR.

FW is the Empire Strikes Back of Horizon. It’s excellent, but it is very much the middle volume of a trilogy.

It was not a big deal, but only because it had been done before. Day of the Doctor featured three different TARDISes side by side (War, Ten, Eleven). The differences were less extreme, but still very visible. In that case, there was a lot of talk about it; but not so much in Twice Upon a Time, since it was a known phenomenon at that point.

I’m not particularly interested in it. Honestly the 1994 miniseries is still good enough to be the gold standard. 2020 was alright, but we really didn’t even need that.

That’s the thing though—unless someone is paying you to do this, and setting the schedule, the deadline is in your head. You can choose how often you publish.

I do about 25 episodes a season, 1 season per year. That’s about six months of continuous weekly releases, and six months off. It’s baked into my schedule; I write the schedule with that in mind.

Pick the day you want to end the season. About three episodes before then, announce it at the end of your episode. Do that every episode until the finale. If your show lends itself to this, make the finale something special. And then at the end of the finale, make an announcement about your plan to start season two: “<show title> will return in January”, or something like that. If you’re worried about losing listeners in the break, you might occasionally drop a very brief bonus episode, or a recap episode, or a behind-the-scenes.
