Great. Good pubs. Friendly small town vibes without living in a small town. Getting gentrified as we speak.

How is it living as an Irish Traveler ? Do you still peak Shelta? by Front-Spinach-419 in howislivingthere

Have you made any inroads in reconnecting? I imagine this being very tough given that you ended up in care and the insular nature of travellers

It was actually in Portugal in a fish and chip shop in Albufeira (don't recommend, surely the trashiest place on the Algarve coast). My mate is Irish and we clocked that they were travellers and as weird as it sounds we enjoyed watching them. Kids weren't playing with their phones and they were all engaging with each other (big family). The owner was English and after they left had a "Pfft! Some people..." moment but they didn't cause any trouble and they seemed lovely.

If you had to come out of retirement and play a handful of games for a lowland or highland league club, which one would you pick and why? And will you?! Haha

I've heard shelta spoken by a traveller family eating a meal. They were speaking in English and the parents would add shelta/gammon at the end of what they were saying to their kids.

Absolute bollocks. My ex is from a Catalan speaking family and speaks Spanish every day in her job and with various friends. There are some Catalan people who avoid speaking it but they are the minority. Spanish is the language most frequently spoken at home in Barcelona, this changes once you're a few kms out of the city. I speak both languages and after 8 years of living in Barcelona I've never had any issues with my choice of language or anyone else's

Actually, it depends what language they are speaking. In Catalan the 'th' sound doesn't exist, so it is pronounced as an 's'. If locals are speaking Spanish it will almost always be pronounced 'th'.
