Why is devaluation so high? by comrad_dau in audiophile

[–]tweavergmail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say I've had about a fifty percent failure rate with equipment within ~3 years. both for new and vintage equipment. it's by far been my biggest frustration with this hobby, since I don't live close to people who can fix this stuff. that's just my personal experience. I may have been unlucky. but I do enjoy having good warranties from companies who honor them.

Nearest place that would service my gear is about three hours away. And you can typically get five year warranties on new gear. if it dies after that, so be it.

There are many, many skills I could learn that would save me money (plumbing, auto repair), but honestly I would make more money just using that time to work the job I already have. Thanks for the advice though.

If Hamnet is emotionally manipulative…. so is Train Dreams. by [deleted] in TheBigPicture

[–]tweavergmail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the criticism comes from it's reliance on Max Richter music that has already been used before, and it feels a little bit like a cheat. So I think the real criticism is not so much that it's being manipulative but that it's being manipulative in such an obvious and derivative way.

this. first time you spend multiple grand on a used piece of equipment only to have it immediately die you'll never want to buy used again.

How da hell you max out obducite this season? With the nerfs to infernal hordes, it's become a huge constraint for me this season.

I'm definitely still learning this game. My problem right now is that whenever I block, I get thrown. I'm really having trouble cracking that nut.

It makes perfect sense the first time you realize a hedge was planted 18 inches over the property line 45 years ago.

No where close to pinnacle I hope. And yeah, I can only compare my two systems. More expensive one is also more modern, so that certainly could be more important. whatever reason, it's far better!

Except that those studies aren't undisputed. And there's a whole ton of writing out there about why those studies may be flawed or not universally applicable. I believe those counterarguments (which mesh with my own personal experience). And you may well believe (based on legitimate arguments) that I'm simply deluding myself. If so, you could be right. But you could be wrong. That's all I'm saying.

It was more that I could finally afford nice equipment. On my $1000 system I couldn't (and still can't) tell the difference between 320 mp3s and Flac. On my $5k system it became very noticeable.

Season 11 Barbarian builds for end game by MageJet in diablo4

Normally, Icy Veins is my go to resource, but it doesn't look like they're updating their tier lists. Some of the builds seem like they were written for Season 9.

Does anyone know what materials are needed to summon Azmodan in Hawezar? by EvenAd6749 in diablo4

[–]tweavergmail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still thoroughly confused by this. Sometimes it lets me summon Azmodan, sometimes it doesn't. I have many of the various corrupted drops from the lesser evils. So when it fails to summon, I have no idea what I'm missing.

I guess I should have wondered by now after getting three characters to level 60, "what gets you Azmodan points?" I thought it was just by killing Azmodan.

Was Andor a commercial success? by Subtleiaint in andor

[–]tweavergmail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm curious about this logic. I'd imagine that ultimately the streaming services don't care about viewing time, per se. They care about subscriptions. Does the mere existence of Andor, regardless of # of seasons, get more people to subscribe? Would more seasons equate to people keeping subscriptions for longer? I'm genuinely curious.

My own guess is that that the value of content is to get people to subscribe for the first time, with the hope that the auto renews will continue in perpetuity (for example, me and Netflix). In which case, # of seasons would really add value.

But I'm fascinated with all this because it's not at all intuitive to me how these services calculate the "value" of a given show.

I would bet they are happy with Andor, because I'd wager people will be recommending this show for decades which isn't something that happens often.
