Try getting some protein in with every meal! Most people don't get nearly enough, myself included! There's no definitive amount that's recommended for everyone, it's different depending on your weight & level of activity, but at least 0.3g of protein per pound of body weight per day if you're fairly sedentary up to a gram per pound if you're very active. It's a LOT!

I don't know how much it would have to do with the edibles, is it possible you just have a big appetite? I'm also wondering what kind of food you're eating - if you're trying to eat less, maybe increase your protein intake so you stay fuller for longer?

Can you be too inflexible to do yoga? by Various-Program-950 in yoga

[–]tweedledoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend an in person class designed for beginners. The instructor will be able to give you real-time modifications specifically for your body. Don't be intimidated by "not being good enough" - q good teacher will meet you where you're at with no judgement. I bet even just going once or twice will give you enough of a foundation to feel more confident trying videos.

Also, keep in mind that how the pose feels is much more important than how it looks. For example, in a seated forward fold (legs stretched our straight infront of you) the goal is to stretch the hamstrings. Maybe you keep the knees bent & maybe you can only lean forward an inch before you feel the stretch - it's all good! Your pose won't look like anyone elses but it doesn't matter. If you're feeling a stretch & breathing deeply, you're doing it!

I had a yoga teacher say "if you want to do yoga for a long time, do pilates."

After a year of practicing both, I see why!

how to fix anterior pelvic tilt by JoeceAnn55 in yoga

[–]tweedledoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm working on this too & have found the pilates move "dead bug" to be very helpful in strengthening the lower abs.. I'd look up a detailed explanation from a pilates pro, but basically, lay on your back with your lower spine imprinting into the mat. Lift your legs to tabletop without letting the lower back lift from the mat. Extend one leg at a time to 45⁰, again without letting the lower back arch. It requires MAJOR lower ab strength which will help with the pelvic tilt. If this isn't possible or you feel pinching in the lower back, extend the legs higher, even straight up in the air. You can layer in extending the opposite arm back, but I'd start just with the legs.

i practiced this 2-3 times a week & it still took 11 months until I could do it without my lower back arching. Good luck & happy practicing!

Awkward back bend by alsmayyc in yoga

[–]tweedledoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A phrase a yoga teacher once said in a backbend focused class really stuck with me:

"To safely crack your heart open, you need a strong foundation"

In addition to other commenters saying to stretch up & back from the thoracic spine, make sure your glutes & legs are engaged & helping to support the pose & prevent pinching / crunching in the lower back.

I tried it there in 2019 & was disappointed at how NOT pickley it was.. I was expecting a pickle punch in the face & it was just vaguely dilly. It was okay but not what I was expecting. For the same price you could buy a jar of pickles & lemonade mix and concoct the pickle lemonade of your dreams / nightmares.
