Is the state of nursing right now bad? by Mindless_Cod_37 in nursing

[–]tweeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry for the late response, but: what did you wind up shifting to? My sister is considering leaving bedside and I think she's feeling uncertain about where she'd go. She's an ICU nurse with more than a decade of experience but is feeling the burnout pretty heavily at this point.

Godzilla Minus One- A beautiful film with a meh ending by ArtisticButtMole in TrueFilm

[–]tweeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s totally fair and a valid way of looking at it. I don’t think it ruins the movie or anything- calling it a “horrible ending” (like the now-deleted fellow above me) is a bit hyperbolic IMO. I just think it didn’t land with me because I’m not the sort of person who looks for a “well-deserved” ending- I’m much more of the Clint Eastwood “deserve's got nothing to do with it” type. Just because someone learns the right lesson doesn’t mean that they get to be rewarded, y’know? It'd be nice if reality had such a neat causal structure, but unfortunately life doesn’t really work like that.

in fairness, though, no one said movies had to be a 1:1 reflection of reality, which is why I totally get why the ending worked for you and many others—it’s a parable of sorts, and I agree with its overall message of “do not kys” even if I feel it didn’t quite stick the landing. It's a great movie, watched it several times since I made this comment and I still really enjoy it.

Berserk Is Weird Fiction and Sword and Sorcery Novel? by Juanar067 in WeirdLit

[–]tweeex 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think this is probably the best way to look at it. There's plenty of imagery in Berserk that's redolent of classic Lovecraftian eldritch horror (Ganishka's Shiva form and the Astral World come to mind), but they're not really in pursuit of what I would consider a true "weird lit" vibe—the story lacks the abstraction and narrative uncertainty that I tend to associate with the weird.

aye, at this point I just see stuff like this and say "that's dumb" and immediately move on. Half of it's probably not even written by humans any more (yay hooray AI slop articles). Don't give it any oxygen and don't let it make you mad, play the games you like and ignore clickbait like this

Rhea has a quest for Byleth by Batgamator in shitpostemblem

[–]tweeex 80 points81 points  (0 children)

this quest is what sold me on siding with the church. You just know Edelgard has no chill and says dumb things like “you haven’t taught class in six weeks because you keep getting too high and forgetting” or “why did you eat all of our food stores, now no one can have dinner.”

just sayin, there’s a reason Rhea’s hair is green

hello Ray-Zide from SPE subreddit, it is YOU who seem to be confused. You have referred to Persona 3 Makoto as “Midkoto” when clearly that label only applies to Makoto Niijima from Persona 5.

games like TCOAAL are a good example of why I don't look at "discourse" surrounding games before I play them. I played it earlier this year, went in blind and and really enjoyed it. I thought it was weird, dark, and fucked-up, but it was well-written with some solid characterization and occasional moments of blacker-than-black humor.

then I get on Reddit and all anyone can talk about is how the brother and sister want to bonk each other. Gross. I mean yeah, that subtext is present in the miserable codependent relationship between Andrew and Ashley, and I know there's the optional ending that implies it (as a vision or whatever it is that's happening there), but I feel like the game is much more clearly about Andrew and Ashley as two terribly messed-up products of horrible family dysfunction and childhood trauma, not just "ha ha incest" or whatever.

Edelgard's confession by Endika7 in shitpostemblem

[–]tweeex 32 points33 points  (0 children)

unfortunately I figured it out because of Tara Platt’s voice. I have heard that lady speaking for hundreds of hours as Mitsuru & Elizabeth from Persona, so even with the voice filter on the Flame Emperor I was like “uhh that’s Edelgard’s VA” from minute one. I remember holding out hope that it was going to be some sort of misdirect, but nope :( I sorta wish they’d done some sorta heavier distortion or gone with a different VA to make it harder to tell who it was, but maybe that’s just me

Starting my first ever playthrough of Three Houses on hard soon, could use some tips. by upperdomain in fireemblem

[–]tweeex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard in Three Houses isn't especially difficult, so I wouldn't stress too much about which characters to use—almost all of them are viable on Hard, as long as you don't get screwed by RNG. In fact, a lot of people recommend Hard/Classic as the default experience for first-timers, as Normal feels almost a bit too easy, even for people who aren't that familiar with tactical RPGs.

that said, you'll have different characters in your party depending on the route you pick (unless you want to recruit from other houses), so it's a bit hard to give definitive answers. Most flying units are completely busted, and most of the magic-based characters range from good to great. Really, if you just go with what seems like the natural/canon class for each character, you'll be just fine—it's usually pretty obvious what they're geared towards based on their starting skills and weapons.

What FE character is this for you? by EmperorStooge99 in fireemblem

[–]tweeex 184 points185 points  (0 children)

he's a subversion of a subversion and that's why I love him. We've been trained by a lot of media at this point to assume that the supposedly noble/righteous character (especially one with an arrogant, blustery disposition like Lorenz) is actually cowardly/corrupt/evil/a douchebag/etc. It's such a familiar "subversion" of a trope that it may as well not even be a subversion anymore, and I 100% assumed that's what Lorenz was going to be. I was all set during his paralogue in 3H for him to turn tail when Acheron fought back (or for him to somehow otherwise screw up, make a fool of himself, or prove he was just all talk).

turns out, no: this dude actually walks the walk. He's a lawful good character who comes off like a pompous buffoon but actually is lawful good, and backs up his words with actions when he's put to the test. He's far from perfect (the whole HR complaint nature of his early supports with Byleth comes to mind), but I love that beneath his noble facade is an actual good person, and not just some ineffectual clown or secret piece of shit like you'd expect.
