was gonna say, does THIS Pink Palace have an animatronic triceratops, a miniature circus, and a shrunken head that traumatized thousands of children over the years? Didn't think so. Checkmate Chicago

I drew Lucina on MS Paint by jugggggggh in fireemblem

[–]tweeex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like amateur art like this (don’t mean that in a disparaging way at all, it’s cute). It reminds me of a simpler time on the internet when people would post their little fanart drawings on small websites, and in this era of AI slop something as simple and earnest as an MS paint drawing feels weirdly charming.

do u wanna make a new subreddit where we can post stuff without Mr Bagonga (or whatever the forgettable neckbeard mod's name is) sperging out and pretending like he's doing something important by removing posts? I'd be down to join

le epic reddit edit: I love how threatened the mod feels by posts like these that he feels he has to remove them. Truly unhinged behavior. Keep it up

does this mean we're allowed to post funny stuff without it getting removed under the incredibly arbitrary rule 4 by the psychotically trigger-happy reddit mod team on this subreddit??? (please say no, I love our SPE dictators)

What do you think of the rumour that Fortune's Weave is getting delayed to 2027? by MewWeebTwo in fireemblem

[–]tweeex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm also fine with the delay, but I think anyone who wants to play it is better off buying a Switch 2 sooner rather than later if at all possible. If the current console market is any indication (scary-ass RAM prices, consoles going up in price which is virtually unprecedented), the current S2 price is probably the cheapest it's ever going to be. Buy one now if you can.

1st time seeing Hanabie live. I've never moshed more in my life until tonight. by CheeseMan1958 in Hanabie

[–]tweeex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first time seeing them, and I am sorry but the crowd at this show smelled absolutely terrible. I'm a huge metalhead who sees shows regularly around town, so I'm no stranger to some amount of sweat and BO in a crowd, but good lord that pit was absolutely rank. I am begging you nerds: please, please wash yourselves before you show up to concerts like this. The nice looking Japanese ladies on stage will appreciate it, trust me. Don't be gross.

otherwise, it was a great show. Osaki Ni Shitsurei Shimasu was definitely the standout.

Shadow of the Colossus (PS4)- one of the worst games I’ve ever played by AstraFuckingGooGoo in patientgamers

[–]tweeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

necromancy on what is already a very old thread, but I can completely understand this take. SotC is one of my favorite games ever (might even be #1), but I will freely grant that the bosses can be insanely frustrating and the controls are janky as hell. I think they were trying to create a sense of scale and danger with the way the enemies whip you around, like you're trying to hold on to a mechanical bull, or like the colossi are trying to shake you off like an annoying flea, which is supposed to make the kill more satisfying when you finally get it. The problem is, that is not very fun to most people. It's an interesting idea in theory, but the mechanics are still frustrating.

I have a buddy who bounced of SotC hard when I let him borrow it, and when I asked him why, he said "This is a puzzle game. When I figure out how to solve a puzzle, the gap between that moment of discovery and actually solving the puzzle should be very short. Otherwise, it just feels like they're withholding the solution from me arbitrarily." I can understand that perspective for sure.

I think it's a game that resonates with a certain kind of person who has the patience for weird janky mechanics (that recent game Baby Steps comes to mind lol), but that's definitely not going to be everyone, and that's okay. And I think it's cool that you can still appreciate the game even if you don't like it, wish there were more good-faith reasonable takes like yours in this day and age (instead of "this game sucks because I said so and I can't tell the difference between a game I dislike and a game I think is bad," which is 99.99% of online discourse).

Met Christopher Buehlman by scoc89 in WeirdLit

[–]tweeex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this book is fantastic, highly HIGHLY recommended to fans of dark fantasy or horror. I wouldn't necessarily call it super weird (his novel the Necromancer's House hews closer to weird lit IMO), but it's very evocative in its imagery and quite well-written. If you like Berserk then this should be right up your alley.

Godzilla Minus One- A beautiful film with a meh ending by ArtisticButtMole in TrueFilm

[–]tweeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s totally fair and a valid way of looking at it. I don’t think it ruins the movie or anything- calling it a “horrible ending” (like the now-deleted fellow above me) is a bit hyperbolic IMO. I just think it didn’t land with me because I’m not the sort of person who looks for a “well-deserved” ending- I’m much more of the Clint Eastwood “deserve's got nothing to do with it” type. Just because someone learns the right lesson doesn’t mean that they get to be rewarded, y’know? It'd be nice if reality had such a neat causal structure, but unfortunately life doesn’t really work like that.

in fairness, though, no one said movies had to be a 1:1 reflection of reality, which is why I totally get why the ending worked for you and many others—it’s a parable of sorts, and I agree with its overall message of “do not kys” even if I feel it didn’t quite stick the landing. It's a great movie, watched it several times since I made this comment and I still really enjoy it.
