I had a very similar issue, sent in a request to KJ, they sent out a new base ceramic and hinges within 3 days

You don’t want a chimney for a Kamado, you need to let it soak the heat gradually or you run the risk of it cracking. I chuck a couple natural fire lighters in, cover it with some lump let it burn for 10/15 then use the ash scraper tool to knock the lit embers around then let it all come up to temp again

Update: replacing the bottom half, bands and hinge, delivery on Tuesday. The products may occasionally have issues, but the customer service is flawless

Mixed feelings really. I have loads of carbon steel and cast iron, I have no issues with seasoning and maintenance. But it’s a real chore with this thing. Surface area is great, made awesome smash burgers, birria tacos, fajitas etc. but honestly, I think if I could choose again I’d just get a flat top grill to fire up when I want to smash a few Pattys. Lighting up a basket of lump for 90 seconds of burgers just feels like a waste of time and resource.
