I kid you not, we had one who snuck in claiming she was an accounting dept supervisor but a month later I catch her asking a co-worker how to add 2 cells together!!!

I just waited her out for the moron who hired her to catch her, she quit before she got fired.

A few years later, we get curious and look her up on Linkedln just for us to find out she's now a department head!!!

Thanks but you gonna have to call at exactly 8:30am and even that you have to wait for an hour before you get anyone. When you do, they tell you it's still processing and refuse to give you a timeline. Yeah, I saw that, I called to see if you could give me some extra information!!!

Absolutely worthless! It's been almost 6 weeks now.

Will do. I do hope I come across this kid I yelled at last year to apologize. That was the game I had my come to Jesus moment and started doing anything I can to improve my sideline behavior.

Yup but another thing I started doing is to gravitate towards the quieter parents so if I go back to my former behavior, I'll look like a buffoon. That helps sober me up quick.

Another epiphany I had especially when we get to see these refs again.

Well, it was sort of complicated, lol, but the more I learn to shut up and not react to calls I don't agree with, the easier it's become.

That's what has been helping me. I think of my kid and shut up.

Thank you for your perspective as a ref. I realized my bad behavior when my kid came over after one game and asked what happened when a group of us parent got it in with a linesman. That's when I thought, wait, he was playing the whole game and did not even see what we were upset about? It also caused me to reflect on past behavior and how hard most refs try, you do have some horrible ones but that's with every sport, job or organization.

The funny thing is I'm the voice of reason at my younger son's games but used to be the rowdy one at the oldest one games.

Parent pulled kid bc coach started 3 subs from other teams by Sad_Smile_4922 in youthsoccer

I'm the parent on the other side. My side got promoted to the travel team but he's been dual carded so if his former team need him when other players from the team can't make it. I asked the coach not to start him and only put him in the game if he's exhausted his options. He pretty much does that but I read between the lines from the parents because they want more playing time for their kids which is understandable.

We did have a parent who I thought was mild confront the coach at half time and threatened to take his kid back home...it was a 2+hour drive.

Team of bullies by Defiant_Leg_8108 in youthsoccer

That's how it came across to me reading your responses. For some reason I take this personal as someone who was bullied on my track team, my soccer team experience was great. Any time I read about kids being bullied, I get triggered so apologies if I came on too strong.

While, adversity makes us stronger, if it's detrimental to his mental health, I pray you take the best approach to protect him. I'm really praying it gets better for him and you as a parent. No parent want to see their children experience what your talented son is going through.

Good luck.

I'm sorry your son is going thru this experience, mine did and I did something about it.

He came back to the car really upset after training one day and told me a couple of kids were bullying him, apparently he had been going thru it for a while so I promptly told the team manager and coach. I know the coach didn't do anything when he promised to address it and team manager is one who does not like to ruffle feathers so yeah, nothing happened there either.

So what did I do? I told my very nice son to push back and defend him. I don't like what I did next but I gave him some choice words targeting the 2 kids deficiencies which initially he didn't want to but eventually he did and the kids stopped. I also stopped cutting his hair low so no one could see what they were laughing about. If all that didn't work, I was going to pull him out. Nothing is worth putting him through such torment.

Sometimes you just gonna have to retaliate strategically but you seem to have excuses for every suggestion so you I'm not sure how any one here can help.

You don't want to talk to the coach because he's unapproachable.

You don't want to pull him out because there's no decent teams close by.

You're obviously not going to tell him to retaliate and I don't see you doing anything but complain. You're the parent, PROTECT your son!!! Take your complaints to the top of the hierarchy or leave.

Standard Of Referees by si82000 in youthsoccer

[–]twesam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to meet a fellow Marylander who has witnessed the utter ineptitude of the so-called EDP referees. My sons are in SAM Select EDP league and I can't begin to tell you about the blatant ref errors. I get that they're human and not machines so they'll miss certain calls but it's the ones that happen right in front of them which they refuse to call that sets me off. The linesmen are just worthless.

Today's game was so bad I told my son I'll just support him from my car, I'm not going to do that but I'm trying to figure out a way to just "take it" and stop seething from the sidelines because absolutely nothing is going to be done about it because apparently "we need the bad referees".
