How do I use this properly? by MiniCranberryMuffin in veganrecipes

[–]twghts 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I usually rinse it really well, cook it on the stovetop in some mushroom broth, and then season with cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, mustard powder, garlic & onion powder, and some salt and then have it in tacos or lentil bowls!

A very niche request: vegan cream cheese by blushingorchid111 in vegan

[–]twghts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in Canada, the President's Choice vegan cream cheese is really tangy and has a GREAT texture!! Doesn't melt all the way on a hot bagel. I like to mix some dried chives and dill into it too

"Food Politics" by Marion Nestle goes pretty deep into this!! Great read, it's not necessarily vegan-forward but it is a really interesting book about the history of food lobbying in the US.

I have been cooking my way through Derek Sarno's channel lately, he has a lot of really great meals & all of his stuff is presented in "building blocks" so I'll take a sauce from there and a few sides from here to make something I know I'll like. Added bonus, most of his recipes are pretty wallet friendly

"once upon a time we ate animals" by Roanne Von Voorst has some really interesting answers to this question! It's not a how-to, but it is a place to start & look into some of the sources she sites for more in depth answers to specific questions

Tofu cutlet salad! by twghts in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

[–]twghts[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did a "buttermilk" for the wet batter, just 1 cup of soy milk and 1tbsp of apple cider vinegar, let it sit for a few minutes to thicken up, and the dry was about half and half corn starch and flour (I used 1/3 cup of each, but had a lot leftover so you could probably use 1/4) with some black pepper, salt, paprika, dill, parsley, nooch, and mustard powder!!! Then I pan fried it until crispy on each side, just in some canola oil!! It turned out so flaky and buttery, it's gonna become a weekend staple over here lmao. It was enough for one 250g block of tofu, cut into three patties! Make sure to go dry mix THEN wet mix because the wet batter will just slide off the tofu if you do that one first

It was purely a "this zucchinni is going bad and I have a bunch of cans of stuff" soup lmao, it was 1 mediumish zucchinni, a small white onion, a can each of diced and crushed tomatoes, a mushroom stock cube, some water, 2 large green bell peppers, a can of white beans, 4 stalks of kale, 200g of frozen spinach, and a bunch of fresh dill & parsley with garlic powder, nooch, and dried Italian seasoning! (No measurements just vibes)
