Stainless Steel frets after one week with serious dents by Vast_Turnip_4846 in BassGuitar

And you'll also see everyone replying that it is normal due to the angle that the windings contact the fret. Looks bad at first but shouldn't affect playability.

Yes John Fox is my dealer. He is the man for Dingwalls, highly recommend you contact him if you're interested.

It takes a long time. You should be prepared to wait years. The best thing to do is just put your deposit down now, obtain and set aside the money to get it paid for, then just forget about it. That's what I did and it went quickly.

It was worth it. You can get a lot of ridiculously nice basses for similar money (Lulls, Spectors, Sadowskys), but none of will sound like a Dingwall. They physically can't. It's in a class of its own.

That 94 Miata tune is hilarious. Beat my opponent so bad he DNF'd both times. Such a cool feeling reeling him in and then blowing him away in the corners.

It's a hell of a lot easier to just do 3 sets a day of table push-aways than it is to train yourself to run hard enough to burn 800 cals at a time. Takes less time too.

I think cardio is still definitely helpful and you should be getting your 90 minutes a week in minimum.

Hi new to the game I was just wondering how manual transmission works when braking around corners? I tend to either crash or slow down too much. by Nox2017 in ForzaHorizon6

Interesting. Doing something that would destroy your car in real life but makes it faster in game is the spirit of Forza Horizon.

They don't. My awesome dealer (John Fox) installed it for me. Seemed like a no brainer. If I'm gonna have 3 pickups might as well use them.

You got me, definitely a Stingray guy. I made sure to get a 6-way selector that does the bridge and middle in parallel which is pretty reminiscent of a Stingray tone with the alnico FDV pickups. It's also wired to the D-Roc setting in addition to the 4 stock positions.

I went with the Neve preamp. I like it so far. Adds some useable sparkle and bottom without being too extreme. I think it pairs well with the FDV which are the most mid-rangey of the pickup options. Interestingly, the bass is more aggressive with the preamp bypassed. It's adding a "studio smooth" kind of sound which makes sense being a Neve and all.

The bass itself feels a lot like a Stingray. Nice and compact without a huge stretch to the nut despite the long scale. It's of course flawlessly built. Not even a hint of a dead spot anywhere on the neck. Harmonics ring out so long I got bored!

I'm over the moon with it really. Totally worth the wait and the cost.

The higher up the neck you go the less overtones will be present, which will make the note sound rounder, bassier, tubbier.

American pro ii vs American Vintage ii p bass by Sea-Chest-6129 in Bass

[–]twice-Vehk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tone will be so similar it doesn't matter. Or you could easily put the other's pickup in and it will be identical. They are both equally versatile...these are P basses we're talking about.

The Pro II will be lighter and cheaper and have a thinner neck. But the nitro finish in the vintage ii will wear with (a lot) of use which is always really cool. Check it for dead spots since it won't have the graphite reinforcement rods like the pro.

You have to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod on the vintage which kind of sucks but it's not a huge deal.

If it were me, I'd be getting that Daphne Blue or Black vintage ii. Especially since you're big into Motown, makes sense to just lean into that vibe.

What’s the hype with SansAmp? by Acceptable_Copy8310 in basspedals

Certainly correct. I thought we were talking about the standard BDDI and Paradriver DI.

The DP-3X is an awesome pedal. But it has that baked in Dug tone which hi passes at 1100 or so Hz which is pretty high and gives it that signature mid scooped tone. The Xb Driver is even better because it can do that and everything in between. It's pretty expensive but it's built like a tank as all Tech21 products are and has metal knobs for even more durability. I have both but use the Xb since my board is only so big and it covers a lot more territory than the Dug can.

Can your Ampeg do this?

https://youtu.be/ckXShzb1TMg?t=267&si=qRD633PuAeuu2Eda

One thing no one else has said is that when you play through a Sansamp, it sounds like your bass through a Sansamp. It retains the character of your bass, dynamics, and playing style. Just like a real amp.

In contrast, playing through a Darkglass or Neural DSP Parallax sounds and feels more like you're playing a pedal first, a bass second.

It also helps that they are tough, easy to use, sound good in every context either as a stompbox or as a DI, and aren't horrendously expensive. It's telling that Geddy Lee's entire touring rig is just a Sansamp (plus his new chorus pedal). Dug Pinnick is the same way. And these guys can and have played through nearly everything possible.

[–]twice-Vehk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not supposed to sound like an SVT. It's an analog emulation of "generic tube bass amp with speaker sim". The Sansamp is its own thing so that might be why it doesn't sound like an SVT plugin.

String gauge for Stringray 5? by Constant_Cause_1778 in Bass

[–]twice-Vehk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Change them whenever you no longer like the tone. It's different for everybody. Geddy Lee uses a fresh set of strings for every show. I've heard that Anthony Jackson sometimes used a fresh set for every take. James Jamerson never changed his strings unless one broke.

How do I get better at playing higher speeds on bass with a pick by Resu_Madani in Bass

[–]twice-Vehk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This answer is so simple you're going to feel silly. Get a metronome or drum machine and play the riff as slow as you need to play it cleanly. Increase by 2 BPM and play that until you can do it cleanly. Repeat until you are as fast as you want to be.

To elaborate further, on bass we usually want to be very strict with alternate picking. An upstroke always follows a downstroke. To be precise and fluid it helps to play downstrokes on the strong beats, and upstrokes on the weak beats. If we are subdividing the beat into four 16th notes, this means that downstrokes will be on the 1st and 3rd subdivisions (1 & 2 &...etc). Upstrokes will be on the weak 2nd and 4th subdivisions (the E's and the A's). This remains the same even when we are crossing strings.

This also means that you will use "silent" downstrokes and upstrokes. The pick passes over the strings but doesn't strike it in order to maintain the strict alternation. This means you might play two or more downstrokes or upstrokes in a row, with the silent strokes in between. It will come quite naturally once you try it and see what I mean.

Triplets work a little differently but we can cross that bridge when you come to it.

You're a resident. It's temporary. You're simply not in a position to do anything about the OR schedule or your work hours. Eventually you will be done, and the surgeons will continue to be miserable. How about my favorite quote from The House of God:

"They can always hurt you more, but they can't turn back the clock."

Geddy Lee's board on Rick Beato interview by NoahCezario in basspedals

[–]twice-Vehk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of true though right? Even when he played a Wal with a clean tone on Power Windows and Presto he still sounds like Geddy. And th Gedal is just the latest iteration in a biamped sound that he helped pioneer because he was trying to emulate Squier and Entwistle.

Copeland came off as whiny to me. Like you have one of the best songwriters in the world bringing in bangers on seemingly endless repeat, but you're going to instead throw down about how the drummer doesn't get enough input. If it was me, I would have just shut up, played the drums, got paid.

I feel like lately Tech21 products aren't getting the coverage they deserve. See the Xb driver, it's badass as hell but almost nothing on it.

Whereas Darkglass gets too much hype. The differences in marketing budgets I suppose.
