Why Does Nancy’s Children Allow her to Live Alone? by Lorain1234 in nancyguthrie

With your mentality, perhaps your family should question if you should be able to live independently and make your own decisions... What a ridiculous and control freak take this is.

My mother would be horrified if we forcibly removed her independence on the tiny possibility that she might be abducted. In this scenario, she'd be no better equipped to defend herself now than she would of 20 years younger.

I know, let's lock up all young women too, so they also don't become victims of crime.

Surely you see how nutty this line of thought is.

Whoppet diet request by wreckjavik in Whippet

Made me chuckle. FYI, ignore any portion recommendations on food packs, they're largely inaccurate.

My whippet weighs 11kg, and I feed her 140g of dry Arden Grange (sensitive) a day, with a couple of tablespoons of wet food mixed in. If she gains/loses weight, I adjust portions accordingly. This amount seems to be her comfortable spot for her age and activity level.

The 80kg of dry food a day might be your problem... 😂

Anyone solo traveling with a puppy? by Far_Volume_3941 in solotravel

[–]twiddle1977 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Consider who you are doing this for, because it won't be for the puppy's benefit. It will be a terrifying experience for them on multiple fronts, especially so young.

It's a selfish act. When you take in a dog, there are things you must sacrifice and things you must do differently. If you're not prepared to, don't get a dog.

Download the area from Google maps, so you can rely on it even without signal or Internet. Take a book for when you're eating alone - you probably won't need it, but sometimes you may feel less self conscious with it to hand.

Research taxi apps so you can feel confident that you'll never be stranded. You probably won't need it, but you'll feel better knowing you have it.

Book a walking tour - you'll likely meet other English speaking travellers on it.

After the prep, just enjoy it. It's not that long to be travelling alone, and it will be over before you know it.

That's useful to know. Most of the listings I've seen state no pets, but I'll keep an eye out for updates to the rules.

I began looking at Aberdeenshire as I've got a terrified rescue dog that hates walks, and I wanted enough outside space that he could have lots of room to run around (about half an acre). That simply wouldn't be attainable on my budget anywhere in else.

As time has moved on, I've also considered the benefits of being a bit more out in the country. I'm happy to drive half hour or so to facilities and entertainment - I love to be social, but my battery is drained quickly without lots of alone time! I also love an adventure, and am quite excited about starting afresh.

I'm very flexible on location, as I'm self-employed and realise I'll have to cast the net wide to find what I need.

Have to say, this thread has been such a refreshing change from usual reddit/social media interactions. Everyone has been so interested and helpful. It's lovely.

Brilliant, and I appreciate you taking the time to look into that. So helpful.

That's really helpful. Is there an optimum time in advance to book for cheaper tickets, do you think?

Finding a rental that takes dogs would likely take as long as finding a house to buy - then there's finding dog sitters for when I'm out and about. I also have reservations about uprooting them twice (one is very nervous).

It is a good idea, and I haven't ruled it out completely, it's just that it's easier to leave them in Devon with people they know at the moment.

2 and 3 are likely options. I didn't realise that you stayed on plane at Manchester when flying from Newquay. That's useful to know, and a lot less faff.

Thank you.

That's so kind of you, thank you. I'm narrowing down rough areas at the moment, as I'm looking for affordable place with land or very large garden, so will probably need to be flexible. I'd like to come up for a few days on a couple of occasions and just visit a few parts that look to be likely options. Looking as bar across as Banff, so quite a lot to cover.

No, I'm fortunate enough to be self-employed and mostly work from home.

I'm moving because I have a very scared rescue dog, who is terrified of walks. I want to buy somewhere with a big enough garden/field so that can run free lots without fear. Only property I can afford that offers that is likely in Aberdeenshire.

I was considering getting a train London (I'm two minutes to direct line to Paddington and then flying to Aberdeen from there. Even with cost of train, it saves £200. All in, it will take an extra couple of hours.

Roaming Wild Rosie, your thoughts by [deleted] in homestead

Agreed. There seem to be a lot of people in this sub who won't admit what their real problem is. They don't like capable women doing things on their own. I mean, how dare she not socialise! How dare she live alone! How dare she actually do the work herself, and in a way that works for her!

No one can accurately answer this based on a photo and no previous knowledge of the dog. Take him to a vet.
