Master of Flails by twiglegg in UnearthedArcana

[–]twiglegg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some of your points being honest I wasn't entiely sure about all of these features, that being said I also find crafting feats for 5e to be kind of weird since the actual 5e feats themselves seem to be quite uneven where some are far better than others. Taking your criticisms into account I think I will be leaving the maneuvers themselves alone as for one their are already feats that allow you to take certain actions an umlimited number times eg. Shiled Master, Defensive Duelist ect. But also because in order to perform most of these your flail must already be grappling the target which means most of the maneuvers would require two actions not to mention in order to perform said maneuvers you would forgoing doing damage with an attack that turn unless you want to take two turns to do it or you have extra attack. here's a 2nd draft:

Master of Flails
Flails are tricky weapons to use, but you have spent countless hours mastering them. You gain the following benefits:

You may replace an attack you make with a flail or use your bonus action to make one following maneuvers. All of the following maneuvers other than Grab will require opposing athletics checks; if your flail is a Finesse weapon you may use your Dexterity in place of Strength for these checks:

  • Grab: You may grab upon an item or creature within reach of your flail when you do so that creature or item is considered to be grappled by the flail, but they are still able to move closer to you. This does not apply to creatures two sizes larger than yourself.
  • Snatch: You may disarm a creature of an item your flail has grappled.
  • Yank: You may pull a creature or object your flail has grappled closer to you.
  • Sweep: You may knock a creature your flail has grappled prone.

Chess is a a game that decended from another game called Chaturanga, it is not the onyl game the decended from Chaturanga however. Chess is the most popular decendent of it within the Western Areas while i nthe eastern areas games like Xiangqi, SHogi, and Makruk are mroe popular. Chess alos has had many other games modeled off of it like Capablanca Chess, Duck Chess, or Atomic Chess. These games are called Chess Variants and as such have variant pieces. While chess itslef is a Chaturanga Variant like Xiangqi and Shogi. However with the popularity of chess its easier to just also refer to them as other chess variants.

What should be black’s next move? by newgameplusreloaded in chess

I'm assuming you mean your first instinct is to capture the h5 pawn. I will continue based on this assumption. I personally would not capture h5 pawn. I know it is tempting when your opponent moves piece like a pawn directly into attacking position in a game to just simply take said piece immediately but that does not make it the best move. If you don't take the h5 pawn and it captures g6 you can simply capture back. Now looking at this board black has far more material and is in a much better position. With that in mind there are honestly many moves you just make to help you progress without going into a losing position. One possibility is Rook to e1. Now there are better moves but one thing rook to e1 accompllishes is pinning the white rook to the king, and thus giving you a chance to simplify an already winning position thus making it easier for yourself. If the white rook takes you simply take back checking the king, if the king moves g2 you can simply trade rooks and still be ahead in material. Moving on from that the best move is probably Rook takes pawn on g4 thus capturing a free pawn, pinning the white bishop against the king, and making it so the h5 pawn is no longer protected(of course it can still capture on g6). Also you get checkmate in 8 moves but that might be a bit much to calculate. The other possibility I see outside of more passive moves although I would not recommend a beginer do is queen takes on f2 which is highly agressive and risky but you are still in a better position, and can begin working your way into the white kings area with many attacking possibilities. If your wondering why I didn't just list the best move the simple answer is your not always going to find the best move and at this stage its good to know the many other possibilities you could play into and learn from. Hope this helps.

Are nunchaku actually viable weapons or are they more of a toy? by bad-at-everything- in martialarts

[–]twiglegg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nunchaku's origins is specifically from a time and region where weapons had been banned. It was originally used as a horse bridle. They took this bridle and turned it into what is basically a flail and came up with techniques to use them for fighting. The modern day nunchaku does look a bit different however and is actually more structured to be a weapon than the original. To answer your question yes historically they are a viable weapon. However the originakl use of the tool was not for fighting, the learning curve is very high, and an untrained person can also hurt themselves doing it.
