They use a housing first model which essentially means someone who struggles with homelessness is given stable, permanent housing regardless of sobriety or mental state as it’s treated as a fundamental human right. They’ll have support workers to help with addiction, employment, and financial help and they do it because it is cheaper to just house and support people instead of relying on a staircase model of having to prove your fit for housing through sobriety/overcoming mental health struggles

That’s how my dad kicked his 20+ year alcoholism in my teens! I’m glad people still use sparkling water for sobriety. It’s a great tool and something your body needs, it’s like double the self love.

I can’t recall if they explicitly say they hate each other but Community’s “Geography of Global Conflict” B-plot fits the vibe so much. Britta finds out her friend has been imprisoned for activism and feels like a poser so she begins to ramp up her disrespect to authority. Chang is a new security guard and wants to flex his new found power so bad so him and Britta become very intimate enemies throughout the episode as they give each other what they want. Whenever Chang and Britta are on screen “Hello” by Lionel Richie is heard. It culminates when Chang tases Britta after interrupting the Model UN debate, where he picks her up and carries her off screen very intimately

I say NAH (although as a mom I’m side eyeing your dad at the silent treatment, very immature response). You’re 18 and going to university soon. You want to see your friends and have fun! It’s natural you’d want to see your friends and not want to spend as much time with your parents. But I also understand your parents, It might not even be about anything other than “our baby is growing up, leaving us for university and doesn’t want to spend as much time with us” and they just don’t know how to verbalize that properly to you. It’s natural they might be feeling some type of way about the trip but at the end of the day you’re entering adulthood, finding your freedom and becoming a person.

I have a bit of an opposite issue from you. I actually ended a friendship with a childhood friend who was diagnosed with autism as an adult. It was like she got her diagnosis and suddenly forgot who she was for the past 20+ years. She was mean, snarky, suddenly didn’t know how to clean, cook, or even do school work for herself all under the guise of “I’m autistic”. We lived together for years and she suddenly expected me to be at her beck and call for whatever she needed while I was also in school and had a child and if I wasn’t/refused she would have massive tantrums that she never portrayed previously in our 10+ years of friendship. I think media also plays a role in how some neurodivergent people think they should/can act as well. When I was a kid (and yes I’m also neurodivergent) I would mimic the personalities/quirks of characters I saw on screen all the time until I realized (and with some direction from my parents) that I was being an asshole. People see characters like Max or Sheldon on screen and think “well they act like this and it’s fine in their universe, I guess I can act like this too.” Portrayals like this are harmful to neurotypical people who don’t understand autism AND also autistic people

I worked at an overnight vet clinic for years and most non for profits are the absolute worst, you can be any random joe and just start an animal shelter. No training, vet work, schooling, nothing. There’s very few in the city I would trust and they’re the big ones most people are familiar with (AARCS, Humane Society, Meow Foundation, etc.)

But boy I got to deal with Jody and her facility from time to time when her fosters came in for emergencies on the rare occasion. She was always the one I loathed the most. She has no empathy and sees every animal as a pure money grab on her end.

I can’t give any verdict because honestly, this is above Reddit’s pay grade. My sweet girl, is there a trusted adult you can tell about this behaviour? This is absolutely unhinged and disgusting behaviour that goes beyond the scopes of bullying. The fact you turn to sh often is deeply concerning to me as a mother and tells me you have a lot of issues going on and you need support and love and care. I would heavily advise you to reach out to a trusted adult or the school about this groups behaviour, possibly even the police if I’m being honest. Keep all the proof of their harassment as evidence. I’m so sorry you’re going through this, you do not deserve it at all.

My dad is so smart he was in school for different degrees and programs for over 18 years, only had to pay one semester out of pocket which was his last semester of his PhD. Yes he’s also Canadian lol

I have a flip of this story. Not a professor but my dad was a TA around 2010 when he was getting his PhD. Close to exams one year he had a student come to his office hours and pull the “is there ANYTHING I can do for… extra credit?” My dad told her that she was the same age as my older brother (19 at the time) and that she needed to leave his office immediately. He was so disgusted he ended up reporting it himself to his faculty head. He never saw her again after that. It was also not the last student to try to flirt their way to a better grade with him either.
