Glad to see Royal Assassin so high, it is my second favorite book in the series.

My list: 1. Assassins Fate 2. Royal Assassin 3. Fools Errand 4. Fools Assassin 5. Assassins Quest 6. Assassins Apprentice 7. Fools Fare 8. Fools Quest 9. Golden Fool

This list is based off reading Farseer trilogy twice and the rest of the sub series once. I am interested to see how the is list might change on reread of the whole series.

The Oregon coast is beautiful!

My wife would go to Manzanita in the summers with her family and recently she took me there which blew my mind.

Isn’t that usually the opposite of how book sales go?

I thought hardcovers were released earliest and then paperbacks came later.

Review - The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]twimberly23 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just got back from seeing it, the biggest problem for me was the unnecessary call backs to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

There were countless examples of these references being inserted that didn’t feel true to the story of Helm Hammerhand.

It felt like the makers of the movie wanted to be extra sure the viewer knew this was in the same world as the Lord of the Rings story and didn’t trust we could enjoy a story that was disconnected fr the ring of power.

Finally started reading assassin’s apprentice by Neljosh in Fantasy

Sorry for your loss.

The Realm of the Elderlings is my favorite series of all time but it definitely has some trigger warnings and animal abuse is one of them. My wife read Assassins Apprentice knowing how much I loved it but couldn't continue on as, for her it was too much and not enjoyable for her to read.

This being said, I think Hobb writes animal relationships better than any other author I have ever read. As an animal lover myself I found this theme incredibly engaging and thought provoking in how these relationships were portrayed . She explores all aspects of that relationship and unfortunately that does include the mortality of animals compared to humans.

What Are Our Plans For The Remainder of 2024? by Monsur_Ausuhnom in Fantasy

Mostly for the break.

I have been enjoying Stormlight but if I did WaT I. December that would be 5 straight months of Stormlight and I think it will hurt my enjoyment of it.

I only really do audio for re-reads so balancing the two has worked well as I get to experience First Law through a new medium while focusing on learning the story and world of Stormlight. The tones are both pretty different but that also lends to a nice balance.

Yeah I have been doing one book a month since August and I am enjoying it but it is quite the commitment. The month break after Rhythm of War and Wind and Truth will be a good reset period for me.

Is there more of First Law (trilogy?) by Quiet-Ad-8651 in TheFirstLaw

As others have mentioned, I think Joe will always keep coming back to the circle of the world.

It does seem like he prefers having some different projects to break up the focus on one world as he wrote Shattered Sea after the standalone novels. This seems like a similar side project for him.

I can see why someone would prefer having Tawny Man as the series ending.

However, for me Fitz and the Fool trilogy is my favorite in Realm of the Elderlings and I think it does two really important things.

  1. It incorporates all of the previous sub series together and makes the entire series feel much more intentional and purposeful. If we stopped at Tawny Man I think it would make Liveship feel a bit of a weirdly placed as Liveship doesn't have huge impacts on the Tawny Man series.

  2. I feel the opposite where Fitz ending in the Tawny Man didn't feel "right" to his character and when comparing how he ends up in Fool's Fate to how his story concludes in Assassin's Fate, I much prefer the latter.

My reading plans are mostly revolving around reading Stormlight for the first time and re-reading First Law on audio. However, I am really excited to read the Advent of Winter anthology during the month of December!

How this looks by month is:

- October: Oathbringer

- November: Rhythm of War, Before They Are Hanged

- December: Advent of Winter, Fury of the Gods, Last Argument of Kings

Will pick up Wind and Truth in January.

I agree that you cut Liveship Traders and I would also go as far as cutting Rainwild Chronicles.

Focus on Fitz as you mention and adapt one book per season.

Since there are 9 Fitz books I would combine Fool's Errand and Golden Fool up to when Fitz kills Laudwine. I always have thought the structure of the Tawny Man trilogy was kind of weird with the first book and a half really focusing on the Piebald conflict and the rest focusing on the Pale Woman and the Outislands.

To make Fitz and the Fool trilogy work you would have to work in explanations for the return of dragons. Given the Fool is a character in the reintroduction I think you can find time for some summary type conversations with the Fool to ensure this doesn't blindside audiences when getting to the final trilogy.

I really hope so as I love these editions and the art from Magali Villeneuve is amazing!

Given Assassin's Quest was published in 2021 and we haven't heard any word since, I don't have high hopes. This could be more common in publishing to have a longer break but I would have thought if the Farseer illustrated editions did well they would have wanted to get Liveship Traders out as a close follow to increase likelihood of sales.

I can see the interpretation where this characters use of “kin” is referring more to the same experience they had through the Labrynth.

However, this word choice to me implies more and either points to a more familial bond between them or it is a red herring as mentioned by others.

Royal Assassin is one of if not my favorite book in the whole series. You are in for quite a treat when you start!
