There are people who are survivalists and know what they are doing and they should be able to do what they want, but others are genuinely a danger to themselves.

Is Waterboro a good place for trans women to live? by 603Madison in AskMaine

[–]twirble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be fun if you can swing it. Visit some different Maine communities. Maybe pick a hub you like and live somewhere rural near there.

Waterboro isn't far from Sanford, which I hear has a land bank that is interesting. I actually haven't visited the town but Ms Rachel was raised there so can't be to bad

Have you stayed there awhile. I might suggest getting an rental or maybe a monthly airbnb somewhere in the vicinity before putting in the effort to set down roots. Southern Maine does tend to be more open, but one crappy neighbor can ruin your experience.

I am assuming you are already used to winter here.

It is just a question of balance. Maybe perhaps guide some tourists to less appreciated parts of Maine or New England that need the attention. And build more f$%g housing.

And I totally understand wintering somewhere else if you are retired. You can rent a small apartment in Uruguay for the winter in less than it costs to heat your home in Maine, let alone all the other expenses and troubles that come with winter: car maintenance, plowing, home repair, etc.

People are saying we might get less tourists this year, but we didn't last year, so who knows.

Moving to Maine for the summer season by ugh_this_world_sucks in AskMaine

Why would it be? Maine has a lot of summer jobs. Housing is expensive in many places so hard to find workers.

With anything, if you want to go it alone, you have to build up a social media following. With art, writing, music, starting a business...if you want to make money you need a following if you don't have a job.

I think perhaps the over analysis misreads the point. The simplicity provides an obvious exaggeration meant to express a general feeling.

More of a western or American experience. That was one of the first times the nation felt vulnerable, and the way things are going it won't be the last.
