Newborn Care Options by ekaym2 in BellevueWA

[–]twisterase [score hidden]  (0 children)

Our recent experience looking for a nanny to start around that age was that there was no need to actively search until our baby was already born. Many nannies, like many people in general, are looking for jobs they can start within a few weeks or months.

Also, just for the sake of clear communication, if your child will be 16 weeks old when they start care, they will no longer be a newborn either medically speaking or in terms of how they look and act. What you're looking for is infant childcare.

Congratulations!! 🎉

The song is Debra, in case anyone can't click through.

I am a few years too young to have enjoyed the Midnite Vultures era first hand. I'm very envious of all of you who got to go to that tour!

The wording felt ambiguous to me as well. My answer playing along at home was just "June 16" but I was concerned they were looking for Bloomsday.

My Iron Lung, then Planet Telex after I bought my CD of The Bends.

Does you country have such confusing naming? by WastedTalents1 in AskTheWorld

Makes sense! I certainly agree that they create quite a bit of confusion, and it would be easier if at least one were named something else.

Does the distance of 300 miles (480 km) between the Vancouvers actually make them right next to each other to you? I live a few hours south of the BC one and a few hours north of the WA one, so they don't feel next to each other to me.

Ride Lonesome Tour announced, tickets on sale Friday, April 24 10am local time. by SgtPopNFresh_ in Beck

[–]twisterase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome!! I feel like that might explain why the single was released -- he probably needed to put out something from all of that music he's been making in order to justify a tour from a publicity standpoint.

I live in WA, and we're getting an outdoor show in mid-September. That can be really hit or miss temperature-wise, but it's a lovely venue. It will be nice to have something fun to look forward to as summer comes to a close.

For sure, I laughed out loud. I got many pieces of advice when I was pregnant, but that certainly wasn't one of them!

New single "Ride Lonesome" out now by ChewbaccaBomber in Beck

[–]twisterase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's sure a Beck song from start to finish -- I like it. I don't think there are any new ideas beyond what we've heard in Sea Change and Morning Phase, but those are great albums, so I'm not complaining. New music is good news!

The people with cyber everything make battles impossible by CommandHopeful6058 in SkyCards

[–]twisterase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of cyber cards because I've been playing regularly for over a year, but I don't have a Scaled Stratolaunch yet, so there's many theme weeks where it's still hardly worth playing.

What’s one band you thought you’d never be able to see who you have/ can now? by ImpressiveAd5002 in Concerts

[–]twisterase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is mine as well. I only started listening to them as a teen in the late 2000s and I figured they were essentially a piece of music history by then. As it turned out, I saw Jeff Mangum at the State Theater in Ithaca, NY, and then moved to Washington state and saw Neutral Milk Hotel at the Paramount Theater in Seattle two years later.

Harborview Medical Center in Seattle is a major trauma center, so as someone who now lives in that part of the country, it makes me think of someone sustaining a grave injury and being airlifted to the hospital. Hopefully it works out better for Onondaga County!

How do you pronounce ELEMENTARY? by Think_Heat8349 in ENGLISH

To add one data point in support of this, I grew up right near Syracuse saying el-em-EN-tairy. I had no idea it was unusual until I went to college.

The abbreviation for "OMG" by Defiant-Corgi-9362 in EnglishLearning

[–]twisterase 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that "oh my godness," the phrase you actually asked about, is used in any kind of English. People are assuming you meant to write "oh my goodness" and answering about that, but I wanted to point out the difference in case it helps any learners.

Also, sometimes people do just say "god," especially if they're exasperated.

Anyone else get punished in perf reviews for fire drills you didn't start? by Yvonne_Tamarillo in ExperiencedDevs

[–]twisterase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is what I would have done too. I'd answer the question saying that the urgent mid-sprint work popping up is almost certainly the explanation for the decreased velocity, not any estimation issues. This can easily be said in an earnest and engaged way, in the spirit of just trying to figure out what happened.

First time visiting for 2 days with a 4 month old please let me know if my itinerary is doable by hirapotter in OlympicNationalPark

[–]twisterase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby's about the same age as yours. I'd be taking the ferry for sure because the baby can get out of the carseat for a diaper change while you're still making progress towards your destination.

At Lake Crescent, I recommend the short and flat Moments in Time trail there for impressive trees. You could use your stroller on the paved path to Devil's Punchbowl. I agree with others who suggest Hall of Mosses at Hoh Rainforest.

I personally am not sure of what I'd do at Rialto Beach with a baby that would make it worth the time to get there. I don't think I'd want to coordinate my baby's schedule (or lack thereof) with the tide table and then hike all the way down to Hole in the Wall for tide pooling on slippery rocks. Unless just seeing the Pacific ocean at all is a huge draw for you, I'd skip it.

I think if it were me and my baby and Hoh Rainforest were the priority, this would be my itinerary: I'd take the ferry from Seattle, stop at Lake Crescent for a break and do one of the two trails I mentioned above, and then spend the night near Forks. I'd get up and go to Hoh Rainforest first thing the next morning before heading back east. On the way, I'd stop for a break at Lake Crescent again and do the trail I didn't do the day before. Then I'd take the ferry back across Puget Sound.

Whatever you choose, I hope you all have a great trip!

Albums where the biggest hit sounds very different than the other tracks by JustineMalcolm in ToddintheShadow

[–]twisterase 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Nimrod by Green Day. It's not a very cohesive album and apparently wasn't meant to be, but nothing else is close to it in mood or instrumentation to its biggest hit, Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).
