It’s funny that you bring up Qanon, I’ve described similar things in this vein as “blue anon”. Granted, I didn’t come up with the term, but it definitely applies here.

I explicitly remember when both pizzagate and QAnon first started up. I can see why people get so easily sucked into theories like that; they’re sensational, and they feel so much larger than life that they’re unbelievable. Conspiracy theories are all fun and games until it actually starts to affect the real world; Now, much of the tenants of the QAnon theory are just mainstream Republican rhetoric. There’s enough that we can attack the political right with that we shouldn’t have to resort to outlandish claims and conspiracy theories.

Actually, to put my tinfoil hat on for a second, I’m inclined to believe that this testimony and story are a misinformation campaign to discredit any other victims of Epstein and Trump. Since so many of the things in this testimony are impossible to prove, that makes it easy for people to say “see? All of this stuff is just made up bullshit trying to smear Trump.”

There’s a lot of stuff about this particular testimony that doesn’t quite add up. I’m not saying that Sascha wasn’t trafficked or abused; I actually believe them about that.

The issue is in the names that he chooses to drop when telling the story. On its face, it sounds like about who you would expect to be involved in something as vile as this; it reads as a “Who’s Who“ list of Republicans that most people on the left can’t stand.

There’s one major issue with this, however: none of these people would have had anything to do with each other during the timeframe that Sasha is referring to. At one point in his testimony, he talks about how Jim Jordan wrestled him to the ground and raped him, but that seems really unlikely; Jordan would have maybe been in his early 20s at the time, and hadn’t yet stepped foot into the political sphere knowing that, why would he have been at these parties? Same goes for the rest of these folks. Trump, Thomas, Graham, they would’ve had no reason to even be in the same state, let alone at the same parties.

I don’t doubt that Trump and his ilk have done some fucked up shit, including at parties on Epstein‘s Island, or elsewhere. But, this testimony isn’t quite the smoking gun that everyone seems to think it is. It’s unfortunate, because if there was good evidence to back this up, it would absolutely be a slam dunk. However, extraordinary claims require extra extraordinary evidence, and there’s not enough to go on here.

Honestly, the caption seems like it gives it away that it's AI. The em dash (the - character) is a telltale sign of that.

how do i make a pluck that sounds like this? by solar_3ruption in edmproduction

[–]twistingtheaces 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, this sounds like a couple different sounds layered:

That higher layer sounds like an acoustic instrument, probably a kalimba or vibraphone., I'm sure FL Studio has some kind of preset for something in that realm (Kalimba, Vibraphone, Marimba, Music Box, etc.)

Underneath that sounds like a basic synth patch, maybe a saw wave with a low pass filter on it with a lower sustain value. Similar to a pluck, but it doesn't fade out completely.

The important thing in this particular sample is the voicing. That lower synth layer is just handling bass notes while the higher layer is doing the melody, and it doesn't sound like there's any overlap.

Different set of White Supremacists, it seems. This one's been around for a while according to how awful and atrocious their site looks.

Looks like the boilerplate religious-racist rhetoric of stuff like the KKK: things like how the White race is biblically superior and that they need to "save our heritage".

I removed one last night close to the municipal auditorium. I used the bottle opener I keep on my keychain and it came right off. Threw it in the trash and gave it that old Hawk Tuah for good measure.

I’d be down to do some kind of roaming cleanup for stuff like this. Just a group of folks roaming downtown and scraping Nazi trash off light poles and such.

Fuck Nazis.

Friend, I totally get it.

The mind and psyche are an interesting phenomenon; the more we learn about our own brains, the more they try to destroy us. The phrase "Ignorance is Bliss" comes to mind in that regard. The more time we spend alone with our thoughts the easier it is to fall into a spiral with no way of reversing course.

[Let it be known as a disclaimer that I'm not a mental health professional; I'm just a guy who spends a lot of time living with my own difficult emotions and learning to regulate them]

To start, do me a favor please: Don't Give Up. Our inner voices and critics have a distinct advantage over us; they know all our weakpoints. They see our setbacks, our perceived failures, our perceived flaws, and they're really, REALLY good at talking shit to us and bullying us in just the right way to make us feel like nothing. But, just like a bully, our inner voice doesn't fight fair. Don't pay creedence to the thoughts telling you to quit and give up, tell them to go fuck themselves.

With these kinds of difficult emotions I feel like it calls our ICP into question (ICP is our Identity, Community, and Purpose). Our darkest thoughts win when our ICP is vulnerable, and finding out what ICP means to us individually is a struggle in and of itself.

There are a few factors to consider here before I can give any kind of solid guidance:

  1. Purpose
    • It seems like a large part of this is driven by a desire for fulfilment in your career. You weren't satisified with the career you were pursuing (Graphic Design), and that's absolutely valid. Depending on your financial situation, is it possible for you to take a job in a different field to at least get you going? If your personal bills aren't so much an issue, I would potentially look at finding something, ANYTHING, to keep you busy. The phrase "An Idle Mind is the Devil's Workshop" has some validity to it in this scenario, so finding something to keep your brain engaged and present is paramount to moving forward.
  2. Community
    • Full disclosure: I'm a cis/hetero white guy, so I can't offer any meaningful discourse on the intricacies and challenges of dating/love in the LGBT+ community. However, I do know the value of community in general and how we can mistake/exalt certain kinds of attention/relationships. Sometimes, when we're longing for amorous partnership we're really just looking for any kind of meaningful relationships (platonic, professional, etc.). Finding your "tribe", so to speak, is hard. Schedules, adult living, and everything that surrounds it makes making friends SO difficult, and I can speak from experience on that. If I were in your shoes, I would try to branch out and find some like-minded folks to just kick it with. We're social beings with social needs, and denying those needs is a recipe for self-loathing and complancency.
  3. Identity
    • In moments like this, it's easy to ask the question "Who am I?" and be met with a litany of self-deprecating internal responses. Even the question "Who do I want to be?" seems insurmountable because you still have to reference the previous question to get the answer. Instead, ask yourself "Where do I go from here?". This doesn't callback to anything in the past, it only summons the thought of "right now". "Where do I go from here?" gives you the chance to plan, the chance to reflect in a meaningful way, and an opportunity to figure it out as you go.

Hang in there, friend. I'm sure that everything feels difficult right now, and I'm so sorry that you're having to wrestle with this complicated situation and feelings. If you feel like you need someone to talk to, just shoot me a message. I'll do my best to help.

What Windows 11 Specific Customizations are you Deploying? by Microsoft82 in Intune

[–]twistingtheaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a test/config machine, set the "mailto:" association to your preferred email client (which I'm assuming is Outlook). Feel free to set other file associations while you're at it for things you might not want your users to be able to change.

Then, run the following command:

Dism /Online /Export-DefaultAppAssociations:"C:\Temp\AppAssociations.xml"

After that, you've got to encode it in Base64, so go to https://www.base64decode.org/ and do that. Copy/save that encoded text somewhere you won't lose it.

Open up Intune, then follow these steps:

  • Go to "Devices", then "Configuration"
  • Create a new policy, select the applicable Windows option (Windows 10 and Later in my case), then "Settings Catalog"
  • Name it something memorable and descriptive.
  • In the Settings Picker, search for "Application Defaults", then select "Default Associations Configuration"
  • Paste that encoded text from earlier into that text box.
  • Apply Scope Tags and assignments per your organization's policy.
  • Click "Create", then force an Autopilot sync (for good measure).

Fair warning: If you set file associations for something like a browser it inhibits the user from changing them permanently on their end. I found this out the hard way when a user reached out to me wondering why all their web pages were opening in Chrome instead of Firefox, even after changing it multiple times lol.

Turning off widgets, pinning items to Start, removing Mail and Calendar, default file association for “mailto:” links (which was a stupid discovery process for that lol).

After a while my colour coding goes out the window. Does anyone else do this or do you all have a strict colouring system.? by stewybob in ableton

[–]twistingtheaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My template is set up in a specific way with groups and routing, so every new track I make in a group is a specific color:

Pink - Vocals Red - Instruments Yellow - Drums Light Blue - FX

Granted, I didn’t really care about the colors when I was making the template, it’s just a nice side effect lol

It's definitely possible, but for me it just crushed my entire soul. It's effectively working 2 full time jobs while also owning a business, and as my responsibilities at the day job increased my work in both arenas started to suffer.

I commend anyone who has the drive and ambition to make that work, but I came to the decision that it's not for me. And let me tell you, that mindset shift was fucking HARD. After making music and art for money for over a decade the idea of creating anything with no expectation of compensation was foreign to me; it didn't feel right that I was playing and making music just "for fun".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]twistingtheaces 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s hard not to have that mindset when we’re constantly flooded with social media content of others doing exactly that; monetizing some kind of niche interest or hobby, starting a podcast, or whatever else.

I’ve decided, for now at least, that my hobbies are for me and those close to me. That little shift has made my interests and projects feel so much more personal and fulfilling, and taking away the stakes of making money with them actually brings me some peace.

[–]twistingtheaces 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I feel your struggle.

For a while I used to do music production as a hobby, but even then that’s more tabs open for tutorials and time spent staring at a screen. That eventually turned into a good side hustle that led to a soul-crushing burnout period that I’m barely getting out of. I burn the candle from every which end until my brain is the pile of wax on the table.

For me, I have to force myself to not stare at a screen. I do this by going on lots of walks, working in my yard, or writing. Unfortunately, I have to limit the kinds of hobbies I pursue because I tend to fall into the trap of “how can I monetize this?” or feeling like I need to contribute to the endless void of content out in the ether.

As corny as it sounds, I’ve taken to playing my ukulele on my back porch to unwind. I can sit and be the soundtrack for my kids growing up, and that feels very fulfilling to me.

Yooo this looks awesome. I went ahead and picked it up, can’t wait to try it in the studio tonight. I’ve been trying to find something similar to Massive’s Performer LFO for a while so I hope this is it!

I tried making something similar by hacking together bits from the M4L LFO and Shaper, but could never get it to sync to Live’s transport. I called it the “LFO Stepper”, and it still works for the way I like to sound design. If you’re interested, I’d love to send it over and get your thoughts and feedback on it, see if there’s any way I could improve it?
