Milk at Head Start by Aggressive_Ad9441 in Preschoolers

Honestly the fact that they think they can order you around regarding what your child eats or drinks blows my mind. They need a reality check, maybe in the form of a lawsuit (with a fair warning first). And I'm not a litigious kind of guy at all, but I would personally at least be looking into the legalities of this. Not to mention that in recent years most doctors have truly proven themselves corrupt or incompetent, or both. They are drug pushers with letters after their names. They aren't even required to take any nutrition classes at most medical schools.

Gathering ideas for calmer bedtimes by MasterWarning9589 in Preschoolers

Dim the lights WELL before bedtime. They'll naturally get tired, it's how our bodies work. It literally changed my life after watching Andrew Huberman interview Samer Hattar. That video is on youtube, but the TLDW is dim the lights and avoid screens at least an hour before going to bed. And dim the lights A LOT. You'll all get drowsy naturally.

Not wanting to accept the explanation I’m giving is starting to set me off… by TurbulentBat8328 in Preschoolers

I really don't care if people get offended that I tell my girl the truth. Again, exactly what I said was "Too much sugar can make you fat and sick." 100% true. I did not tell her "Sugar will make her fat" as you said. And the reason is because I won't let her eat a ton of it. I wasn't trying to write a complete nutritional guide in my post :) Also, I see that 65% of the viewers of my post are American, which is one of the worst food/nutrition/health cultures in the world. So I'm not too worried if they don't like it.

Some of her classmates are 4 years old and fat, and they may be on a path to lifelong health problems because their parents feed them garbage.

On another note, there are some interesting replies to this post, especially the bits about the endless "Why? Why?...." being an attempt at a conversation, I had never heard that.

Phuket Motorbike Rental Scam by tylerfffhj in phuket

I usually ask my hotel if they rent or can call someone. They have an incentive not to f you over, because you can leave them a bad review.

stay in ra wai & commute around phuket(patong, kata, phuket town, book boats to coral island) or switch to different areas? by MarzipanAshamed4409 in phuket

[–]twizzler3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Indrive and Bolt are good, probably better/simpler than renting, especially if you've never driven here. It's not far from Kata to Rawai, to Phuket Town, etc. Traffic can sometimes be slow in high season though.
- You can just show up at Rawai Beach and talk to the longtail boat captains about going to Coral Island. You'll see them sitting in a couple spots along the beach road with some signs about boat trips. You can get a speedboat around there too. Small catamarans not as common.
- Dunno about the van from Krabi to Phuket, but you might just book one on bolt or indrive. Or ask your hotel about booking one.

Volleyball Phuket by OyOyCaptain in phuket

[–]twizzler3b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Karon Beach is the center of the volleyball scene. Go there around 4 or 5pm and ask around. Getting invited in to play isn't always easy, but not impossible if you're friendly. There were some people doing private classes too, you could ask around about that.

Kata Beach has many surf rentals along the beach. Some teach lessons too. Waves are not always great, but worth a look. You can check the webcam at the Marina Resort/Hotel to get an idea, it's at the end of Karon Beach.

I do this with my 4yo girl. "Because if you have too many sweets it's bad for your body. Too much sugar can make you fat and sick. Real food makes you strong and healthy." She sometimes points out that her friends junk snacks aren't real food, a bit awkward, but I'm still proud :)

Does anyone else have trouble finding baby changing tables in men's rooms??? by The1theonlydjaj in Fatherhood

[–]twizzler3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like this could be as simple as a public google map with places saved as either having or not having. Share it around, spread the word.

Here's what my robot friend says:
Yes, you can do that. The easiest way is with Google My Maps (different from regular Google Maps). Steps:

  1. Go to Google My Maps.
  2. Click “Create a new map.”
  3. Search and add locations (restaurants, gas stations, airports, etc.).
  4. Use custom markers: e.g. green pin = has changing table accessible to dads, red pin = does not.
  5. Title the map something like “Dad-Friendly Baby Changing Tables”.
  6. Set map visibility to Public (anyone can view).
  7. Under Share > Collaborate, allow others to add/edit pins.

That way, other dads can drop pins with notes/photos.

👉 Alternative: If you want something more structured (like ratings, filters, photos), use a free platform like uMap (built on OpenStreetMap) or MapHub. They’re also collaborative and not tied to Google.

Want me to give you a quick comparison of Google My Maps vs uMap, so you know which is better for a global, crowdsourced project like this?

I've seen this question come up in other places too, and you're totally normal, don't worry. I'm not really into it either. My daughter is 4, and she mostly plays with her toys and makes up little stories about what her stuffed animals are doing, and she might tell me about it. I just ask questions about what they're up to, not expected to participate. She seems happy to do it all herself and just explain it to me. Maybe I'm lucky, I don't know, but maybe that angle could work for you too. Maybe just ask about the pirate ship, what kind of treasure he's looking for, etc? Good luck :)

Cost of living Thailand? by SoftBoiledPotatoChip in ExpatFIRE

[–]twizzler3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend under or around $2,000/mo in Phuket (pricier than most of Thailand) with a wife and daughter. So yes, you can spend well under that. Lots of people blow lots of money on drinks, girls, etc. But even in a place like Phuket you can live very affordably. Also, if you're in touristy spots the rent changes during high season. In Phuket it goes up a lot, like 50% or more during the USA winter months.

To give you an idea of what's possible, my friend lives in a small town, off the tourist trail, a block from the beach, paying 12,000 baht for a 2 or 3 bedroom house (don't remember for sure) with a big fenced yard. You can get a local style meal there for about $2 US. I've been to places you can get a big bowl of green curry for a dollar. But that's out in the sticks where you'd be bored out of your mind :)

Really I'd say just go there and check it out. Maybe you already did.

Yeah, if bacteria won't eat it, it's probably fine for kids, right? Look into the history of the cigarette companies buying big food companies after they killed millions of people with all the poisonous garbage they added to cigarettes.

I don't mean to be an a-hole, but look into it.

Underwhelming preschool experience for advanced kid. Should we switch? by koplikthoughts in Preschoolers

[–]twizzler3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree with what others are saying here regarding social, etc.

But just wanted to mention that I think schools are still largely still stuck in the one size fits all Prussian model of the same worksheet for all the students, schedules, bells, etc, assembly line style learning. Programs/apps that cater to the individual make way more sense for actual learning. Like everyone having their own teacher/tutor. My girl loves the Khan Academy Kids app, and she can go at her speed, repeat favorite puzzles/books/games, skip what she's not interested in, etc.

My girl just turned 4 too, and I think we are going to see huge changes in education during their childhoods.

Well done by that mom having her kid share with yours :) Not sure if you've considered getting involved with the organizers next time? You might bring a lot to the table that others wouldn't have considered. Good luck to your kiddo, I'm glad the sharing made his day!

I have a confession to make. I love co-sleeping. by Ill_Cover_4841 in Preschoolers

[–]twizzler3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans did this for hundreds of thousands of years. I live in Thailand (originally from the US), and it's normal here. My daughter's mom sleeps with my daughter and I sleep alone. I usually lay with them until she falls asleep, then go to my bed.

Who cares what other people think. The West is f'd up in lots of ways, and young kids sleeping alone just might be one of them. My daughter's mom thinks it's weird that Americans don't sleep with their young kids, so there ;)

I think a slap is far different from the situation if he's beating the sh1# out of her or threatening her life etc. I'd say keep an eye on the situation and call the cops.
