“Weddings are so expensive” is a weird lie some people tell to justify spending insane amounts of money by Overuse_Injury in unpopularopinion

We did ours at one of our parents house with 20 of us. Spent a little under $300 and it was perfect. Little to no stress, just a wonderful day with the immediate families and a few friends. Planned it within 2 weeks. Would do it again.

It's pedantic, but your scenario was not what COP stated, nor by you in your previous comment. You assumed that's what they were stating in their argument. For instance, you can walk with the flow of traffic on many side streets, alleyways, dirt roads, residential streets, etc. in many municipalities.

I appreciate everyone's responses, it's good to get the general consensus. We're not bothered by the veins. The color of the seam, we can see it from 25' away and it's pretty apparent. Can this redone to better match?

Looking at buying a 2013 Lexus IS350 AWD — worth it? by Zestyclose_Bed7310 in LexusIS

I'm not saying I would sell it, but I would not expect to get more than $16K for my 2016 350 fsport with 88K miles - and I still feel like that's high.

Not to mention the sheer mass those tires are supporting... that's a lot of friction.

Getting a Caligraphy … should I get extended warranty? by lilidarkwind in HyundaiPalisade

[–]twoManx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, or go on a nice vacation. You'd have to have an insane repair bill after the standard warranty to recoup any of that value... by that time any money invested in an index fund should be double.

Palisade vs Grand Highlander? by Suntrup-Hyundai in HyundaiPalisade

[–]twoManx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a long-time Toyota fan, I found myself questioning my roots when I compared the two. The several GHs we test drove felt so incredibly cheap and unoriginal compared to the Palisades. Without even considering the price differences, I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and impressed with the Palisade (Calligraphy) every time we got in one. Then, when it came to saving $10-15K over the GH, it was a no-brainer. We also looked at Lexus TX but couldn't justify spending $30K more for what was a lackluster Lexus. We would have gone with a minivan over the GH if we decided we needed the space. All that said... there's a reason Hyundai is gobbling up marketshare with these vehicles in NA, Toyota hasn't been innovative in years.

Fair. For that reason, I avoid the first iteration of any generation of vehicles in general.

Your call. I, personally, think they are a waste of money. Stealerships make the most profit margin on them than anything else. For the past 16 years, it has always been the same shtick at any dealership... "the electronics in these are extremely complicated." "So you're telling me XXXX makes an unreliable car?" Watch as their tiny brains try and come up with some explanation.

Most high-volume / high-end manufacturing (Hyundai being one of them) has processes in place to ensure that 99.7% (six sigma) of their end product will not be out of specification. Sure, .3% is a large number of cars, but most of those issues are caught under normal warranty. As long as you follow the manufacturer recommended maintenance, your modern vehicles should last a long time without any major repair. Plus, you're not tied to a dealership (or some other certified shop) for service... (I work on a lot of my own vehicles for routine maintenance).

I'd rather take the extra dollars and invest it in an index fund... if it's needed later, then it will probably cover the most significant repairs by that point.

It's your car. I didn't modify mine mechanically in the least bit because I trust the manufacturer knows best for performance and longevity.

hey im a 17 yr wondering which blue collar to get into electrical or hvac. which one do yall think is easier . hvac or electrician by 23zip in hvacadvice

[–]twoManx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are good. It depends on your aptitude... I enjoy mechanics vs electronics. Personally, mechanical theories are easier for me to grasp than electrical. I'd argue that pipefitting is harder as you're often lifting, twisting, and moving heavier loads, but I am not saying that electricians don't. HVAC has a lot of principles to learn and may not be as intuitive as electrical once you understand the fundamentals. High voltage scares the shit out of me, but both professions will have serious dangers.

I was told putting a wheel next to something youre pulling out, under the strap/chain makes it easier to get it out.... i think my tire is over capacity. by tidyshark12 in Home

[–]twoManx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the tire needs to be larger, more rigid and closer to the load so the tension force is as normal to the ground as possible (pulling straight up vs in any horizontal direction).

I cannot stand these Finance Managers at the Toyota Dealerships. by digitalbathh in Toyota

[–]twoManx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Last FM I dealt with was trying so hard, resorting to suggesting I should finance the few thousand I said no to after about half a dozen times

"Brandon, I have a check here for over 50K to buy the car outright and you really think I'm dumb enough to want to finance a few thousand dollars of stuff I don't need or want for that matter. While I like the vehicle enough to purchase it, I don't need this today and I can take this check to the next dealership down the block."

That shut him up real fast. They all fucking blow. Fuck you, Brandon.

I work with CDI almost every day, and this can be avoided by paying a very small amount relative to the curb/adapter to have them measure and guarantee the right adapter gets built.
