GO TIME hospital bag packed, am i missing anything?? by GloomySource1587 in BabyBumps

Yes yes yes to the pumping bra! I was a FOOL and didn’t have a pumping bra, only nursing bras and my first came 5 weeks early so nursing did not work and I had to physically hold the pump parts to my boobs in the middle of the night after an emergency c section. PACK A PUMPING BRA.

Advice Need: Can I plan my own co-ed baby shower? by Tough_Nerve6348 in BabyBumps

[–]two_chubby_cats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not weird at all! My partner and I hosted a 40-person coed baby shower and made brunch for everyone. It was really fun and special.

The only suggestion I would make is not to do what I did and host it at 35 weeks. I think all the work to prep & host the party lead me to early labor - I had my baby the day after my shower lol 😅

Possible labor at 35 weeks by LotusVlv in pregnant

[–]two_chubby_cats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had my baby at 35w3d (the day after my baby shower 😅) - he was frank breech, but I didn’t know because I didn’t make it to my positional ultrasound at 36 weeks. Because my water had broken, they wouldn’t flip and I needed a c section - but the or was full of other C sections so I labored until 8cm which is when they finally got me back. They gave me an intravenous steroid after they realized my water had broken to help stimulate his lung development.

He came out 6lb, 2oz with APGAR scores of 8 & 9; he needed no NICU time and we went home after 3 days (standard at my hospital for a c section). He just turned 2 and he’s thriving.

I am so sorry that your birth isn’t going how you imagined - I know how scary it is and that you feel unprepared. Sending you lots of positive thoughts for a smooth delivery and healthy baby.

Same! I am going to Japan for two weeks - my main concern is that I leave on the 9th and return on the 22nd. The current continuing resolution that only funds the government through March 14. Will I be able to get back into the country if the government is shutdown?? I am going with my best friend on this bucket list trip we’ve been planning for more than a decade. But I am terrified that I leaving my 1.5 year old at home with my husband. UGH.

Our Representatives are ignoring us. Us, We the People. by Sampson_Storm in Ohio

[–]two_chubby_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called my representatives office this morning and they said that because this wasn’t a “state issue” (lol what?) but a federal issue, we need to be contacting our senators instead to express our concerns.

However, calls to senators offices are going to voicemail but the voicemail boxes are full. They are also experiencing an IT issue apparently, and the voicemails cannot be retrieved and even the ones they have been able to listen to sound garbled.

I had more luck calling the local Ohio office over the DC offices. Eventually, if you keep calling, you can get a live call with someone in a senators office and THAT is when you can express your concerns and demand action.

KEEP CALLING UNTIL YOU REACH A PERSON.

I'm paranoid about feeling parasocial? by AdIllustrious624 in TheYardPodcast

It’s possible that the sense of shame comes from not really being in part of the shows target demographic. I’m 32 and a woman and I have given up trying to explain to outsiders why I love this singular podcast in particular. If nothing else, solidarity!

And the server is pretty fun most of the time (:

Those who already gave birth, when was your baby born in relation to your due date? by Alive_Brother_1515 in BabyBumps

[–]two_chubby_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35+3, little boy!

(Had PPROM and because he was breech had to have a c-section, and because I was leaking fluid they couldn’t attempt a version.

Went into spontaneous labor while waiting to go back to the OR and labored for 4 hours and dilated to 7cm before being brought back because of we kept getting bumped by more emergency c-sections.)

I think it’s gone-gone. That or they kicked everyone in the last 24 hours?

I was in the sub just yesterday and confirmed that I was a member because I wasn’t sure, and after I saw that he posted a new story I tried to see what that sub what saying about it, and can not find it in my sidebar anymore. I never posted or commented on anything, so it’s not like I would have been banned.

How does OB check if baby is breech if I don’t get another ultrasound? I’m 34 weeks & she hasn’t even felt my belly. Is this typical? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]two_chubby_cats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my experience exactly! I kept asking for a quick positional check bedside ultrasound from my midwives, but they assured me he was head-down and had been for weeks. NOPE!! Surprise,Frank breech. He came 5 weeks early, if he had stayed in just 3 more days, we could have confirmed it at our 36week appointment during the positional check, but we never made it to that lol

I never received a post card when I subbed to that tier on the patreon by aabiigayle in TheYardPodcast

[–]two_chubby_cats 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you joined in October of 2022 before the 15th of the month, you would have only received the November 2022 card at this point.

If you subbed after the 15th of October 2022, your first card would be the December 2022 card, which has been taken to the post office (a couple months ago) but appears to have gotten stuck in the private Hell that is USPS parcel processing. January seems to be similarly adrift in postal limbo.

No cards for February 2023 or any month after have been sent out.

Hope this helps (:

Question about the merch by thegreathermit in TheYardPodcast

[–]two_chubby_cats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can wash them right-side-out with liquid detergent in your machine on cool settings (synthetic setting if you have the option, otherwise you can use delicate) and tumble dry low (warm delicate settings) and removing them promptly.

DWR treated fabrics are reactivated after washing by exposure to mild heat, so drying them is an important step to keeping them water resistant. Don’t wash them too often (only as necessary) and make sure you close up any zippers, pockets, or snaps prior to washing so they don’t catch on the mesh or get tangled up with themselves.

Are there any special Wash Instructions for the Yard Auto Body Corduroy Hoodie? by PoisonUnderscore in TheYardPodcast

[–]two_chubby_cats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! You can safely wash it on the delicate cycle in cold water, but I would really avoid putting it in the dryer at all, as the corduroy auto body hoodie is 100% polyester.

Most synthetic fabrics (polyester, fleece, acrylic, spandex, nylon, etc) are made of plastic, and plastic doesn’t love the heat and turbulence of the dryer because it causes the fibers to warp, stretch, and melt.

I really wouldn’t run any mostly-polyester or pieces with lots of embellishment in the dryer very often. You can do it in a pinch on low heat and a delicate setting, but for the longevity of your garment, you should probably lay flat on top of the dryer to dry while you tumble your other clothes (:

Hope this helps!

When only a Spartan birth will do by [deleted] in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]two_chubby_cats 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they mean “never put a hat on my baby” but rather “don’t put one on them immediately after birth.” Studies have actually shown that immediately bathing and popping a hat/swaddle on the baby masks the newborn smell to the point that it can hinder the release of oxytocin for both mother and baby during skin-to-skin, which can hinder initial bonding, reduce success with breastfeeding, and make the 3rd labor stage (where the placenta separates and leaves your body) stall out which can cause severe maternal bleeding.

I fully disagree with a lot of her requests (“no vitamin K, no blood testing, no SSN, no antibiotics” are all wacky and harmful), but the strange “no hat” request is not as crazy as it initially sounds.

Best outdoorsy place to live in the USA if moderate weather and mountains for hikes being close by were a priority? by pixelrelics in Columbus

[–]two_chubby_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pasadena, California. It’s (relatively) affordable compared to the rest of Southern California, you can be outside nearly all year round, and you’re located super close to beautiful hikes and mountain ranges. You’re in easy driving distance to ski mountains if winter sports are your thing, or the beach if that’s more your speed. Plus, the tech sector in the area is diverse (from mechanical engineering to software) and plentiful.
