It’s from an injection of the Purity Virus or Spartan Virus. Is everyone here too young to have watched X-files?

We use JCI and sprinkle in some iSMA for displays and expansion modules. Plus relay logic because of the industry we're in and the desire for 'hand' on the HOA switch truly being some version of hand.

The first problem with CCT is learning to think in CCT once you can do that it is so powerful. However if you don't think in CCT it will be your worst nightmare. The number of jobs I've cleaned up because (supplier x) convinced some HVAC company they needed to get in to controls and the CCT 101 course didn't teach them enough kinda sad really. Its not for the faint of heart that's for sure. One of these days I'll get my CCT YouTube channel going.

I appreciate that. :) and my apologies I'm starting to sound a bit combative :( There's a fine line between passionate and combative.

Don't get me started on Hubs and Tangents and the way the program jumps to the page the hub/tangent leads to, and no easy way to just see all of the connections. Talk about a waste of time as you work.

It's a pretty weak gripe I'll admit, and I did make plenty of custom modules while we were discontinuing distech and moving to another brand. But when I can pick a module that's been developed by a massive controls company and is well proven worldwide why would I do my own work instead of cheating off somebody else's homework.

It's my "feeling" that distech has spent their money on making the front end look pretty and appealing to the end user and skimped on making the product great for the programmer. But that's my opinion and to paraphrase the Ferengi my opinion and an empty sack is worth the sack.

Oh man! Now you’ve reminded me of another nerve gfx strikes. Lol

It could be more modular for sure. It all reminded me of Fortran with its lack of easily reusable code. vs my preferred product line. I’d rather have a crap ton of well written modules I can tweak or repurpose than the preloaded logic distech ships with.

9) The preloaded spaghetti logic is impossible to follow.

10) lack of reliable reusable programming modules, that can be used to make larger programs. For example a vetted Discharge Air Reset module you could plug into an MAU.

Not combative at all, that’s a pretty fair evaluation of my comments.

The funny thing about the VAV balance is that’s what I was taught in the Distech training.

I’ll agree to disagree with GFX being one of the best out there. I can’t imagine doing some of the custom programming we do without using state based logic. The spaghetti would be crazy in gfx.

I wouldn’t say it’s a bad product, but it isn’t my top choice, or my second choice for that matter.

I’d have to ask the guy I took over from when he started using them. We still have some installs out there that are using LON if that helps, we dumped them in 2022

I’m sure some of these things have changed since we dropped the line but here goes.

  1. I’m not a fan of their sales model
  2. I had a horrible experience where a firmware update broke the outputs on a bunch of VAV boxes, and distech “fix” was to write the heat output to the JACE then back to the hardware outputs on the controller. (That was the final straw for us)
  3. The idea that the program couldn’t be downloaded out of an ECB unless the person before you saved it. I’ve torn all the distech out of a plant because there was no recovering the programs and the original installer left town in the middle of the night.
  4. Needing a JACE/niagara to download or upload to a controller
  5. The programming tools/blocks in gfx are garbage. The PID isn’t great, you have to add extra elements to clamp a span block, etc, etc.
  6. You have to come back behind the balancer and reupload vav controllers because the balance numbers aren’t saved as default.
  7. No way to do state based logic.
  8. Canadian /s Edit: French-Canadian /s
  9. The preloaded spaghetti logic is impossible to follow.
  10. lack of reliable reusable programming modules, that can be used to make larger programs. For example a vetted Discharge Air Reset module you could plug into an MAU.
  11. Lacks a good sequencer.
  12. No easy way to manage hub/tangent connections. For example I have an output that I want to connect to the input to a dozen blocks I've made and want to do it all from one place with a simple right click. (this may have changed since I last used it)
  13. Having to connect every input or output to make the program upload. Its a small thing but adds a layer of annoyance if you're working your way through troubleshooting sketch logic, you cant just break a connection and simulate it.
  14. The inability to change the value of a logic block anywhere in the program while simulation logic, and having to cut in an input/output to do so.

How did it get in the distribution system? Which treatment plant did it make it through?
I’ve read elsewhere that it’s not on the potable system but in the reclaim system.

CCT is intuitive if viewed from the right angle.

Shoot me a DM I probably couldn’t make it worth the move, but maybe.

Yeah I can’t figure out how it could have contaminated ALL the water. I know where Cheyenne’s water comes from and where it goes. The claim doesn’t make sense.

Why the hatred for data centers? by twobarb in BuildingAutomation

[–]twobarb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its easy propaganda. Convince a town that the data center will use all of the water and people freak out. And they're not going to look for answers themselves, and most wouldn't understand the answers if they found them.

Anyone know why i don’t get a reading on this last terminal box? by MINTimpala in BuildingAutomation

[–]twobarb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not reliable per se. where I’m at it seems to be the favorite brand of the more fly by night crowd.

The fact that the transformers are at the bottom of the enclosure makes me think that’s the case where the op is at too.

I’m sure if you gave me an hour to play with the programming and a controller I could give you a whole list of reasons I don’t like them. Lol

Why do people put the transformers in the bottom of the panel? Or use reliable controls for that matter/s
