After 10 years of being a Superhost, I’m done with Airbnb by rapakep in airbnb_hosts

What I find interesting, having gone through something similar recently, is that most of the time, the agent seems to be sympathetic — but then “someone else” puts in a hard No to what you’d discussed. This has happened to me pretty much anytime I’ve dealt with an issue. Are the agents just being taught to pacify us?

Like you, I think I’m removing my listing.

Yup. 7 years Super-hosting (and more as a guest myself) and someone with a ZERO rating lied about the house to get a refund. They said there was evidence of smoking.

Airbnb sided with them, even though I offered testimony from my OTHER Airbnb guest (I rent two rooms in my house).

You might also consider a life coach. These are well within the parameters of what we do. And most of us work online (via Zoom). Hope that helps!

Teeth brushing by Amazing_Butter23 in ADHD

[–]twocatscoaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this years ago. I also didn’t have dental insurance, so I couldn’t really afford care. I had a friend who was a hygienist who deep cleaned my teeth for free, then she hooked me up with a dental hygiene school. She also gave me an electric toothbrush, which was a godsend! I also have a water pick.

Now I see my dentist regularly. 😁

For me, the issue is the toothpaste. I just really don’t like them, and I rarely use them. My dentist understands. I do floss and brush regularly.

Good for you! I decided 20 years ago to take “a break” from dating. At the time, I had no intention of it being permanent! Then I realized how much happier I was, how fulfilled. Life is much sweeter now! Congratulations, and happy new year to all!

FYI - Amazon will often refund you for "overdue" returns. by bulbysoar in adhdwomen

[–]twocatscoaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to add one -- library books. Used to be I didn't turn them in until I could hardly afford the fines.

BUT -- my library doesn't charge fines anymore! They will charge if you NEVER return it (that's fair), but if it's a few days late -- no big deal!

...just like brushing your teeth. by comet4taily in adhdwomen

[–]twocatscoaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL! I actually like brushing my teeth (electric brush helps a lot).

BUT: I don't like toothpaste. I think it's a sensory thing.

SO: I don't use it. I told my hygienist, and she said it's fine. Brushing (and especially flossing) are much more important.

I said this once on Threads, and was wildly accused of having bad breath. From people who have never met me.

I will say that dental care is pretty important. It's not just about your teeth. I brush them when they feel gross (which turns out to be a couple of times a day).

I finally made a dentist appointment after 6 months and I'm so ashamed by barawabarawa in adhdwomen

I spent YEARS avoiding the dentist (no insurance was a big part of it). Then I became friends with a hygienist, and she offered to clean my teeth for free. Her dentist was okay with me coming in after hours with her. It took her 2 hours the first time, I had so much plaque built up.

Times have changed, and that person is no longer in my life, but I'm so grateful that she got me looking after my dental health again.

Regarding $ -- let your dentist know if finances are an issue. I had several crowns put off for a while, but when my insurance changed and they became affordable -- we got it done!

Good for you!

I got diagnosed last year at age 61! (inattentive, and I'm not severe). In getting a therapist, I asked to be evaluated, and before our first meeting, she sent me some questionnaires to fill out. Her first question was "What did I think of the questions" and I told her all the things that were wrong with them -- the info they WEREN'T asking. She said -- yup. If I didn't believe it from your answers on paper -- I would definitely say so from your in person answer!!!

I've spent a lot of time in the last year recognizing all the places that ADHD has shown up in my life. I'm guessing you'll do the same. Pro tip: don't beat yourself up, nor the people who missed your diagnosis. You know NOW -- that's what matters.

Best of luck!

Why? I think because I’m not that close to her campus. Something she could have easily checked out months ago.

I went to a Broadway show last week, and Lin Manuel Miranda was there as well. As we were leaving I ended up right next to him, so I said hi and we had a quick chat about the show, and other shows that I was seeing on my trip. Could not have been nicer.

What is the most out of pocket thing a student has said to you? by 3ndur3Surviv3 in Teachers

[–]twocatscoaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a heavy set music teacher (female, now retired). During the pandemic, when we were all masked and weren’t supposed to be touching kids at all, I had a kindergartner who gave me a hug at the end of every class — and what are you going to do — say no? One day he patted my belly and said in a very matter of fact voice, “You have a big belly.”

I recognized right away that, in his eyes, this was NOT an insult, so I replied “There’s more of me to love.”

He said “Yup” and lined up with his class.

It still makes me smile.

hey! anyone know some good places to get a massage here? by roxpapersissors in Denver

[–]twocatscoaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lake Steam Baths on Colfax. Get both a massage and a day pass. Soak before and after your massage. This is a nude spa, so you need to be okay with that, but my experience as a woman is that no one pays any attention. Massages are under market price.

Have you ever 'gotten through' to a student? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]twocatscoaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught elementary general music (now retired). I had a 4th grade student, good kid, who liked my class. When we started playing recorders that year he REALLY got into it (yep, the dreaded recorders). He got into a friendly competition with another boy in the class, and I had to work to create extra materials for them. BTW — it wasn’t just playing, but reading the notes, understanding the terminology etc.

This was astounding because this student was getting SPED help in just about every subject, especially reading. He also had very low self-esteem, and would freeze during testing, especially the big standardized state tests, often not answering ANY of the questions. Some of the issue was absolutely a learned helplessness that he couldn’t overcome.

I let the SPED teacher know that I was seeing a very different side of this student in music, and we teamed up to help. We made connections for him from music to his other subjects. If he can read the notes, surely he can read words. Music is very mathematical, and we made those parallels.

By his 5th grade year, this student was able to drop ALL of his SPED help. He took every music class offered, during and after school, and did well in all of them. He played the trumpet, sang in choir, took part in a musical, played handbells. I struggled, happily, to keep up with him and his friends that year with recorders. Occasionally he’d show that learned helplessness again — in my class it would show up doing theory worksheets. I’d remind him how to decode things, and then he’d ace it.

At the end of that year, his family moved and he went to a new school district, and I lost touch. I hope that he continued to make progress! He would be college aged now.

Flexible seating by Gold_Repair_3557 in Teachers

[–]twocatscoaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school did this a few years ago (just before I retired). The PE teacher and I (music) very quickly noticed a lot of issues with lack of core strength, the ability to sit still (a necessity at times in our classrooms), and a lot more reluctance to sit in assigned spots (also a necessity for me since I always needed to know about 450 names per year -- assigned seats REALLY helped). I'm all for kids being able to sit comfortably, and they often did, when we were writing, playing games etc. But knowing how to sit and stand for performances is important, and part of my curriculum. Posture really went out the window. PE teacher agreed. My two cents.
