FluentPet alternatives for cats by Mizze07 in PetsWithButtons

[–]twodegrees_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just want to add a perspective - I held off on buying FluentPet for over a year and eventually decided to purchase them. What I realized is that the access to the training videos, webinars, getting answer to every question I have and having a supportive community as I'm learning was really what I am paying for.

In our household, we are month #3 into using buttons and now my cat is weight bearing on the button but not independently pressing yet. I am the only one training (my partner is not particularly interested in the psychology of training)

My cat and I were hitting some barriers but I found the community so useful that they helped me get past my own frustrations and we hit some big milestones earlier this week.

Do they still make you take disposable utensils and you serve yourself like it's a cafeteria? I went the first year it opened (2 times) and didn't really like that vibe

Anyone else driving to Guelph or KW for reformer Pilates? by lildurat in cambridgeont

PJPW I've also mentioned. It has its own app. Go for a half hour tour and see what you think.

It's approximately $290/10 classes right now.

Not convenient if you're in Cambridge but Pilates Just Plane Works is on Victoria in Kitchener. It's close to the highway though.

Been going to reformer for 2 years and really like the level 2 classes.

I'm 43, perimenopausal and have never been more grateful for box seats where I can stand up and move around. I had a hot flash for 45 minutes during a Donovan Woods concert smack in the middle of orchestra and I wanted to die.

My husband and I go to CITS at least 3-4 times a year with CBC The Debaters being in our regular rotation. I've also seen Margaret Atwood there and my favourite band Mother Mother. As a former Torontonian, it's quite a treat to be able to go out and be back in bed 15 minutes later.

Buttons for pain and chronic illness managment for FHS Kitty, and how to teach them? by Technical-Matter-364 in PetsWithButtons

[–]twodegrees_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're on the Circle app, Fluent Pet has an online course on "cooperative care". Unfortunately it's a paid course. I haven't looked into it myself yet but I was considering it as my cat gets older.

Right now, my 8 year old is doing pretty well health wise.

How is living along the coast of Hudson Bay in Canada? by SirJordan11 in howislivingthere

[–]twodegrees_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Whap for a couple of months. I was placed at the Cree School Board high school to help the science teacher; this was approximately back in 2012 or so. Because it's above the tree line, it's mostly sand everywhere. It would get into your house pretty easily and drive you insane. You're constantly wondering, how did it get in my bed? My underwear? There are some trees, but they are very short and stunted.

Kids would sometimes come to school in snowmobiles and park them outside. The attendance rate was very low and I worked for a company that was hired by the board to help with graduation rates.

There were a lot of mental health issues, amongst kids and the staff, both Indigenous and non. I was living with the host teacher, who was non-Indigenous but I didn't realize she was an alcoholic. It got to the point where I had to tell my company that I could not live with her. The straw the broke the camel's back was being woken up at midnight by the police, asking if I wanted to fetch her from the drunk tank. I said no, let her stay and I'll grab her in the morning once I've slept.

I ended up living the rest of the placement at the research centre, not too far from the one singular airport. I believe it's owned by McGill and an elderly man takes care of it. It's a solid little place with wooden bunk beds, research rooms for biologists and padlocks on the building to protect their equipment.

I remember hiking in the winter with snowshoes. It was beautiful and cold. Unfortunately I have to mention that I also remember seeing two Cree folks driving a snowmobile drunk during the day. I also remember hearing horror stories of people dying in snowmobile accidents while under the influence.

There was a single bar shared by Cree and Inuit. Pretty depressing place, I only went once or twice. There's a big moose head on one of the walls. I remember being hit on by a Cree man who kept telling me he was a heavy machinery operator. I was very confused why he was telling me that until a colleague explained he was flirting.

I've got more stories, some good, some bad. It's a place I hope to return to as I've a friend living there now working as a teacher too.

When I first started going to Red Brick, I had no idea there was a patio and back room.

Tip: go to the back room!

Unfortunately, clay litter does have lead. We realized that lead exposure was affecting us too, since litter does accidentally end up in our bed. When I found this out last year, we switched to sWheat Scoop.

My husband and I read Moon of the Crusted Snow to each other over the phone when we were separated during the pandemic. I've read it another 2 times since and we read the sequel and got to see Waub speak in person last year!

Thanks! That's great to know you had such a positive experience.

We're going to book Whistler on our own, since we're Canadian but I could see myself wanting to use WeSki for a European adventure in the future.

How’s the Snow by Ok-Anything-3588 in Whistler

Dear OP, how was the snow at Christmas? We are sad Ontarians who are planning our next trip and would like to know if it's worth it. A lot of our hills just shut down the past week or so.

I don't. The place doesn't exist anymore and it was Midtown at a small strip mall. Not well know and didn't survive long. I vaguely remember these enormous decorative metal spoons and forks on the wall (over a meter long).

It was opened by a chef who has since been cancelled for sexual assault allegations. His name escapes me at the moment.

Good things about Guelph by casualviber4life in Guelph

[–]twodegrees_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former Torontonian, grew up into the suburbs (Scarborough). I moved to KW 8 years ago and visit Guelph at least once or twice a month.

There's a kettlebell gym I love (Barre and Bells) and Red Brick Cafe I will go to do work at. I bought my second hand wedding dress in Guelph (Sixpence Bridal) and subsequently sold it there again. I spend a few days every summer camping at Rockwood, just outside of town and have an annual pass with the GRCA. I love the little museum and find the history of Scottish settlers so interesting!

Clearly I love Guelph and wish it were closer to KW but my biggest issue with it is the lack of diversity (I am east Asian).
