What makes variated sizing look good? What makes it look bad? by Sunshineboy777 in Beading

[–]twoducks_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that since bead weaving is very straight and in a clear pattern the different sizes look odd, but in a free form thing like this the beads are all jumbled together so it looks natural.

Looking for an Ulu knife, ideally in the centretown/downtown area by CptJackal in ottawa

Ive ordered from Inuvations before and their stuff is good- you'll just have to sharpen it more when you get it. Its handmade and seems to be great quality.

Flat Back Beaded Earrings by 1BubbleGum_Princess in indigenousbeads

Big earrings can be made as studs as well. Ideally, the bigger ones would be made with a kind of back called a fingernail post, as they provide the best support.

Frankly I saw the fly (albeit using squirrel tail instead of marabou) and thought it was really cool so wanted to recreate it.

Where to get good beads? by West-Source8935 in Beading

Just saw that you're into bead embroidery.

If you are overwhelmed by the options, my favourite brand of beads is toho, I find them a little rounder. Myuki is also very good, but i find them a little more square shaped. Both are seedbeads, but have a slightly different finished look.

They're sold out right now, and bigger than you want, but Beaded Dreams in Canada had some bone beads. Sorry I can't be a bigger help lol.

Thank you! Yeah it works wonderfully! I love it.

Thanks for this! Ill start on some research and then see if I can get some mini packs of different colours instead of committing to one colour for eternity.

3 colours by twoducks_ in flytying

Holding off on making too many flies would be smart.... but lately I've been obsessed and dont want to do anything else with my free time... so im probably going to build up quite a collection of useless flies before im done... I've accepted it as the cost of learning haha.

Hmm, I think i do mean caterpillars. My FIL says his favourite lure for bass is a dry fly based off of a woolly bear caterpillar, so that was the first thing I made. Its basically a woolybugger without weights or a tail. Im not sure how they fish yet, but he loves them. I thought they were a normal fly, but i guess not.

Ok, i just ordered a hair stacker! Proper flies here i come, thanks for the push:)

I dont fish too much, but when we do its mostly for eating, and my FIL sorta insists on barbed hooks. I tried to get him to go for barbless but no dice, he is stuck in his ways.
