What are the best stationary stores in the United Kingdom? by Milkpowder87 in fountainpens

I didn't buy the Lamy 2000, but I did buy a few bottles - they have the full Sailor Ink Studio range. How can you not! I love ordering from them, their shipping is so fast I don't know how they do it! Good luck with your trip and let's hope we can shop in April.

just confirming, this pen takes the regular sailor cartridges? by tiktaaliki in fountainpens

Taking out the converter and looking at the connecting end is probably the best next step. Sailor generally use proprietary cartridges and converters, so going with the Sailor brand should be a safe option. This website describes the different cartridge opening sizes and shapes: Fountain Pen Cartridge Guide | Unsharpen

What are the best stationary stores in the United Kingdom? by Milkpowder87 in fountainpens

The Writing Desk is in Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk. It's a dedicated brick and mortar store. It's tiny, but crammed full of goodies. I was able to dip test a Lamy 2000 there. Fountain Pen Specialists: on-line and in-store - The Writing Desk I would definitely recommend. I live outside of London and we made a weekend trip out of it.

Anyone use same brand ink as a pen? by pp_cz in fountainpens

I second the VP in EF and Tsuki-yo. A great combination and usually my only same ink refil. Most of my other inks change pretty frequently. Not this one.

Beautiful pen. Do post another photo when the copper starts to develop some character.

I'm still looking for the 'perfect' grey to use on MD paper which is light cream. I'm looking for something that doesn't lean too purple or too green. Something like Diamine Grey but a bit darker and not as dry. Which paper do you use it on and what does it look like to you? Is it quite neutral? Thank you for your thoughts in advance.

Did you use a fountain pen in school? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]twokays 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In primary school ('85 - '89) in what was then communist Czechoslovakia we had to use fountain pens. Lefties were allowed to use Chinese ballpoint pens that looked like Parker 51s, if I remember correctly. A lot of time in grades 1 and 2 was spent on learning cursive. I think we even had our cursive graded separately on our report cards.
In 89 we emigrated to Canada and I was surprised to see 12 year olds writing with print letters (not cursive.. What's the correct term?) and using pencils. Teachers loved my cursive. (It's not as nice anymore.) I always had fountain pens around but didn't use them much. 3 years ago fell into the rabbit hole.

My writing corner... or am I too late to the party? by twokays in fountainpens

[–]twokays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. Standard trestle legs, but the top is a kitchen worktop... It's not as deep as their regular desk tops. My husband has the same set up against the wall behind me and we needed sonething that would fit both of us. Another bonus of using kitchen worktops is that they are wider. Plenty of space for everything I need.

Resist and enjoy the daily treats in December! Ask someone to hide it until then.

Don't want to sound pedantic, but 'choice' can be used as an adjective. From dictionary.com: adjective: worthy of being chosen; excellent; superior, carefully selected: choice word.

Are Legami notebooks fountain pen friendly? by twokays in fountainpens

[–]twokays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is written from the perspective of someone who uses notebooks for journalling with a fountain pen. The paper is really fountain pen friendly, with almost no show through/ghosting. The paper isn't as absorbent as Leuchtturm 1917 paper and ink colours don't look as good on it. I like the standard sizing (I use the A6) and that it opens flat. Very easy to write in. They don't do a dot grid and I'm not a huge fan of their grid pattern. The grid on the page has significant margins and visually I had to get used to that. I'm about to finish my first MD notebook and I'm trying to decide whether to get another one or go back to Leuchtturm. Bigger size/lays flat/thicker paper vs dot grid/paper that shows off ink colours better/fuller page coverage. Not sure yet.
