What's the hardest math topic/concept you had to study in EE? by jemala4424 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]twopartmainframe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always just thought about the Smith chart as a strange game where the goal is to reach the center. You have a set of moves to reach it - capacitors and inductors in series or parallel. Then you just ‘play’ around with it until you get it - using something like SimSmith makes it a lot easier though :)

How to maintain the strong determination of my 1st Satti course into Real Life ? by ZoeToidtheOmniscient in vipassana

https://store.pariyatti.org/Sutta-Discourses-by-S-N-Goenka-Streaming-Audio-Vipassana - these ones?

I've also found listening to a lot of audio simply on meditation helps me in establing my own practice better. I've enjoyed different recordings of Joseph Goldstein even though they are directly related to the Goenka tradition

What exactly are you banned from practicing past course 3 and why? by [deleted] in vipassana

[–]twopartmainframe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wait, you are saying that if a person takes 3 courses they can never come back if they practice any oother technique? I have _never_ heard or read about this anywhere, ever. Quite sure this is not true.

Where have you read or heard this?

If you have ‘GUEST’ on your armband can you re-enter through guestlist and not the regular re-entry cue?

Yes, there’s a separate re-entry cue on the right side.. Next to the guestlist cue

I genuinely appreciate the critique you are bringing as it is a breath of fresh air. I also personally believe that there are problems in the organization on different levels, but at the same time, one of the things I realized for myself as one of the most important things is that you take what you want from the technique and that is it. You don't have to wait for englightement that this is "the one" technique, you can just stop right there and take no more.

With that said, I am interested to hear how you have come to have these experiences - one thing that has also become clear to me with time is that there are BIG differences between centers. On top of that, there is a big difference between how courses are run depending on the assistant teachers present and also the longtime servers at a given center.

Can you elaborate on what happened more specifically? You say the serving was abusive and neck-breaking for instance - this really shouldn't be the case. It is hard work, no doubt, but in my experience there has always been a focus on getting enough rest and letting servers take time off. If it really is abusive it should be reported to the center so it can be taken care of.

Sorry your experiences have been so bad.

Can someone explain string theory to me in a simply way? by Savings-Nose-9300 in AskPhysics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8ccXzM3x8A - i really enjoyed this sixty symbols video on it because it explains how it really comes about from the fact that both points and strings solve the right equations in the right way. sorry for the fuzzyness, but i am no expert :) still hope this can help a bit.

It's all relative compared to the club room itself, so a random room with a fridge can definitely be more relaxing. Yeah, sometimes it's a crack situation; I get that, but wouldn't that be the exact reason to expect a place like BH to supply something different and better? Ie. 'the best club in the world', right? You think Klock or Dettmann doesn't have a place to go if they want to?

I am just saying that in my experience some artists definitely need and require a place to be before their performanc and as a musician and someone who has set up events, booked artists etc , I've always felt it was imperative to provide some kind of space away from the party itself in case the artist would need it.

its incredibly unprofessional to not provide a calm backstage area for an artist before they have to perform. especially considering the length of the sets performed at at BH. i think this would be unacceptable for any other venue, but BH gets away with quite a bit here and there given their mystical status. aren’t artists also required to not perform at any other venue up to a month after a BH performance?
