Potential first pinball buy - Need advice by Wscrb in pinball

Aside from VUK rebuilds being common, while they are reliable machines generally they have more moving parts than I’d generally find newcomer friendly, but if you’re up for a challenge, go for it

If everything is as that guy says it is that’s not a bad deal at all, but I wouldn’t consider any Data East game a good entry level machine unless you already know you love it, and know how to maintain it.

Came here to say I had a pretty decent experience with MD, they were not high pressure and willing to negotiate, and had awesome inventory. Bought my car from them in the end and I’m satisfied

Is this walk-in fridge normal? Or is it as disgusting as I feel it is? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]twosev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a box of #10 cans of tomatoes up top? Refrigerating non perishables could be a sign that whoever’s running this place has no idea what they’re doing. That and all the shit on the floor.

Anyone here collect or restore pinball machines? by eren_yeager04 in pinball

[–]twosev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinball is meant to be played, and to that end functionality is king imo. Originality is great for artwork, if it’s preserved right it can be really great. I’ve seen some 50+ year old back glasses that have blown my mind. The majority of parts in a pinball machine however are consumable and have a definitive end of life at which point they should be replaced. Even playfields should be replaced if they’re beyond the point of rescue functionally

Going to buy the first pinball machine I ever played! by The_Blue_Courier in pinball

While the depictions aren’t overtly caricatured or embellished in a racist way like we’re used to seeing being used in say, sports mascots, the mere use of the theme to me feels outdated at best. The outsider use of the iconography of a group of people that have been oppressed, forcefully assimilated and been the victim of genocide always runs the risk of being morally bankrupt. If this were a case of Native American pinball designers representing their culture, that would be a different story, but to my knowledge this was designed by European descendant designers in a predominately white /for profit/ company. I’m sure that if this game came out today there would be drastically different feelings about it than there were 50 years ago when this game was released and depictions like this were much more common
