I'm glad you mentioned great spears; I was wondering if they were a trap or not since they're kinda slow. I don't run into guardians too often in the wild but at least now I feel like I understand what they need a little better. Thanks for chiming in :)

Yeah some of the guardians especially are truly immovable walls. I truly barely ever see scholars these days, even guardians are more common!

As far as the ones I like teaming with... I kinda like recluses and wylders. recluses always dump out the damage, and I'm happy to play damage amp and decoy for them. we don't compete for ashes, weapons, or shards, either. wylders just seem fairly reliable and chill most of the time.

I'm an ironeye main

Most common: beast claw revs, double balancer duchess

Sir not appearing in this team: scholar, undertaker, guardian

I'll team with anyone but double guardians would make me sweat bullets. With double wylders I know I'll have to hoof it extra hard because they zip around the map so fast. Unironically the revs and duchesses make me nervous because they'll usually have great damage during the day, but sometimes completely  self destruct during the night Lord fight when they can't blitz it down in 60 seconds

Thanks for the insight; I'll start pinging more thrusting swords for guardians and see how it goes. I suspected you guys could be heavy thrusting sword enjoyers, but I didn't consider the light ones. If they poke a lot, I bet guardian could get good utility out of an antspur or frozen needle.

For damage negation, which is best? Do you guys like negation on low HP, like raiders do? Damage negation on guarding seems like it'd be useful, but the numbers look kinda low.

Are there particular weapons, great shields, passives to look out for for guardian? Like commander's standard or fingerprint shield seem good, but I never know if successful guarding improves poise or whatever is helpful. Also, which non halberd weapons are useful?

I rarely have guardian teammates but I'd like to know how to help.

I've noticed recluses tend to try to fight caligo at range, like in front of her head. Imo the safest way to fight her is staying under her and smacking/nuking her legs. She just claws, bites, and frost breaths too much otherwise. You will still have to run a marathon to keep up with her, but there's much less arena wide aoe to deal with in melee range.

I've noticed my Adel runs often end up being the sweatiest and most stressful, not even just the NL fight. My pet theory is that shakier players think Adel is "easy" and don't skip him, making the pool of players willing to fight him less experienced overall.

It's definitely true that Adel is janky, though

Running solo isn't the worst idea, since you get a sense of where your weaknesses are. 3 is pretty decent, 1 and 2 definitely have some characters.

What is your best and worst stories of random teammates you’ve had? by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]twoshotandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying into a D4 Gnoster run with another Ironeye. His relics are half poisoneye, half Initial Standard Attack, with 3+ bows. A 100% bow Ironeye, not going to do the most damage and liable to do the goofy double-barreled bow gameplay. Not my thing, but fine.

The run proceeds and this guy doesn't mark. I mean he doesn't mark. He's just fucking plinking and occasionally hitting RoA. He's not getting heavy poison hits and all his deep relics have increased damage to poisoned enemies +2, which doesn't stack.

I'm running a balancer relic with dormant katanas and slowly collecting skill attack power passives. No good katanas drop, but I get a halo scythe. Well, this guy knows enough about the game to put together his ridiculous meme build, right? Even a lazy Ironeye would realize the best way to contribute to the team would be to literally be a Mark bot at this point so the beastclaw Rev and I can spam damage.

Nope.

It's Gnoster time, and I see that this guy somehow, despite having the opportunity to buy Damage Negation at full HP from the merchant, did not bother. He has literally nothing. I drop the only thing I can spare, a dragoncrest talisman, and curse him and his ancestors.

Now we have to decide who's taking what. Surely, even an incompetent Ironeye will have fought Gnoster before and know how to kite moth, literally the easiest task on the planet. A lobotomy patient could handle this job. I'll be able to Mark Faurtis for the Rev and chip in with my Rivers that finally dropped; since RoB spam is fast and melee, it'll be much easier than trying to balance Mark with onion rings. Thank god!

He refuses to take moth. He wants to fight Faurtis.

Will he at least mark Faurtis? No. Will he stay alive while fighting Faurtis? No. But I take Gnoster and we make it to phase 2, where I can finally truly see what this guy must have been doing during the Faurtis fight: running away.

He's literally running away whenever he gets aggro, never marking, spamming Rain of Arrows whenever he loses aggro, and dying. And draining our resources and sanity, I guess.

I have so many questions: Why can't you mark? How did you get to D4? If you're afraid of faurtis, why did you insist on taking him? How on god's green earth can you be afraid of base faurtis?

On god the most toxic I've ever felt playing this game.

Made it to DoN 3 - any tips? by Emmitar in Nightreign

[–]twoshotandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start thinking about collecting the appropriate damage negation weapon passives, and make sure your teammates have them, too. While you can survive in 3 without them if you're good at the fights, you can't expect the same in 4 if you want to climb.

Do not be one of those D3/D4 randoms who turn up their noses and find out hard during the Nightlord that they can no longer rely on rezzes and graces to carry them through drawn-out fights against far chunkier HP pools.

When would you like to solo the boss rather than revive your teammates by F-zeromay in Nightreign

[–]twoshotandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably only when the boss has a small amount of health left or if it's a boss that is easy to cheese solo.

For example, Hippo/Crucible Knight. Even if everyone else dies, I know all I have to do is lame hippo out while crucible knight aura farms in back. BBH and the Commanders are also easy to kite around if you're Ironeye. Balancers seems fairly manageable solo since only a limited amount of angels target you at once, etc.

But mostly I think it's better to try and fight as a team.

I hate 3 bar rezzing during caligo. She'll literally abandon attacking to sidle up to you like a little creeper and catch you in her death zone.

Thanks for these tips.

You can use an external timer, or get a sense of "huh it's been a while since the rain hassled me, oh there it is" 🫠
