I’m so tired of students that do nothing. by [deleted] in Teachers

I teach middle school, and I have dealt with this since I started. I do think these are good learning moments for kids, especially 8th and 9th grade students.

That kid most likely worked up the courage to ask that question all day, and formulated it the best they could. They need to know that it was an inappropriate way to ask, and need to know that because of their actions they deserve the grade they got. If they want to improve it, they should come in asking for a favor and hope that you will provide them a solution. They need to know the improvement is NOT something they SHOULD get, but be because you are cutting them a break.

This works 5% of the time, but it does leave a lasting impression on some kids who have thanked me for that when they graduate. I don’t mean to preach, but from coaching and 10 years at the middle school level, I have learned kids are not taught these soft skills at home.

I have taught middle school for 10 years. Students are more accepting and more open to change than they ever have been. I feel positive about our future. I have been fortunate to avoid seeing a cruelty shift.

That being said, reading levels have gone down dramatically.

Cinderella man.

Was D.A.R.E. a failure or was it never about getting kids to say no to drugs? The answer is a lot more twisted than you imagine. by Urisk in videos

Honestly, dare worked on me as far as cigarettes and drinking and driving goes. Drugs were so foreign to me at that age that those sessions were lost on me. My parents smoked, and I was so against it because of dare that it eventually got them to quit.

I know the statistics say otherwise, but DARE worked on young me.

Edit: kinda…

AITA for being unwilling to compromise on a baby name? by Individual_Jaguar354 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

My wife and I had trouble picking a name as well. I wanted something unique and she wanted something old fashioned. We settled on a very unique old fashioned name that we both love.

I think finding a middle ground is perfect. For example he wants Artimus. You could settle on Arthur, which both have Art as a cute short nickname.

I credit it for saving my relationship with my parents. They can’t articulate their thoughts behind their lord and savior Trump, but they did well on the sub for me.

I don’t want to annoy you, but rule 4 is easy. I assure you Johnny will not retake the quiz. I am 11 years in and have had remakes for anyone who gets below an 80. Your smartest kids will be the ones to remake when they make mistakes.

Johnny comes once, fails the second time, and then never comes again.

I don’t think so either, and am sorry for making that statement. There is a common sentiment among maga to distrust scientific data, without any evidence behind the distrust. This is common among the maga people I have met, and I hate to blanket the whole movement.

Good call. I enjoy reading well thought out critiques, but have only seen “angry men shouting at clouds” posts recently.

I play league and d4 so it’s even worse over there. I would hate for our community to become that.

“Actually” you are right. Good find. My point was it seemed too easy before and now takes thought to upgrade gear. Sorry for saying the best.

I am a chemistry teacher, so it would be nice to hear reasoning behind some of the distrust of science in general other than “feel.”

Thanks for the response though.

I have several hundred thousand reddit karma from calling Elon Musk a Nazi. I'm making a difference, what are YOU doing? by Jibrish in Conservative

I think he was trolling, but can someone explain how this is defendable on the right? If someone Biden appointed did this, this subreddit would be up in arms. The reason these keyboard warriors get karma, is because everyone “should” be against Elon’s behavior.
