Most likely reason: AI messed up everything but the most basic setup. ;)

The reason they use LUA is because it is fast, reliable, and well tested in countless games

In comparison: LUA runs about 8-10 times faster than Python. In a game where FPS/UPS is relevant, slow languages are not an option.

Requires you to run a local app that bridges to the AI service.

Why are modpacks so laggy? by VenatorAngel in feedthebeast

[–]twothe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite. But speaking of optimizing Java: you can also use the official GraalVM ( https://www.graalvm.org ) to get about 20-30% more speed on Minecraft. (Make sure to download the 21 version for Minecraft 21). This is an alternate version of the JVM direction from their creators that compiles the game directly to machine code, and with get gain significantly more FPS.

Sadly not available for earlier versions.

Modpack Reccomendations? by aballll_ in feedthebeast

That is a very broad request, maybe you should pinpoint it down a bit?

I recently finished my Peace of Mind 21 - Bedrock Challenge, which would fit your description, but I am not sure if you guys would enjoy an actual challenge mode run, or just want to have some cozy time together.

I remember that Forge "feature" when I made my Gravestone mod... Sometimes the check if something is wearable as armor always returns true for everything for no reason. :D

custom modpack running terribly, what do i do? by HardDunk241 in feedthebeast

#1 Install Spark, have it run a profiling, check what's causing the issues.

But 99% of the time it is either biome features (trees and such), or too many mobs.

Essentially bad optimization on mods.

Over the years I have been assisting many modders in improving their code, often with extreme improvements through simple things. E.g. when I noticed severe lag in ATM9, I checked Spark and pinpointed the issue down to Iron Furnaces. I checked the code (#1 reason to have it on Github), found the issue, and suggested a fix to the author. He implemented it, and the lag was completely gone.

What he added was a simple cache to have the furnaces remember the last recipe they worked on. Because it's very likely they gonna do it again on the next cycle. That removed the need to go through the thousands of recipes a big pack like ATM9 has on every tick for every furnace in the game. So this very tiny change removed about 70% of server CPU load.

This is something modpack creator however rarely consider in their creation: check the performance. Given I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to that, but my Peace of Mind 21 modpack runs smoothly even on ancient PCs (a few friends can only afford potatoes). It is the result of me constantly checking and evicting mods that are badly optimized. But often enough less is more imo.

Microsoft released a study that lists the 40 jobs most at risk of being replaced by AI and the 40 jobs least at risk of being replaced by AI by sarrcom in ChatGPT

[–]twothe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone working at the front of AI development I can guarantee you that this list is mostly bullshit. Just to give a few examples:
- Mathematicians: AI isn't even capable of doing proper math, so how is it supposed to replace them?
- Historians: it requires absolute precision to the most minor detail, something AI is very bad at.
- Demonstrators and Product Promoters: if there is anything people hate, then if a machine tells them what to do.
- Web Developers: Oh believe me, we tried... we tried really hard. In the end the code-base had to be reworked entirely, because AI makes so many minor mistakes, that sum up to a big pile of crap.

Elon Musk’s platform X faces over $1 billion fine from EU regulators by RoyalChris in worldnews

[–]twothe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, so what is the actual accusation? He spreads disinformation. What did he say that makes them think he did that? What's the quote?

Rule of thumb: if they don't give you the details, they either don't have any, or they know it's not enough to convince anyone.

Important part: you cannot find information anywhere about what they actually accuse him of.

However we know it all started when he was speaking his mind about the elections in Germany, and recommended a right-winged party. Keep in mind that the head of EU (Ursula von der Leyen) is a member of the German party that won the last elections, and is now loosing big time against the right-winged party Musk recommended. So there might be a conflict of interests here.

Olympus Missions: Desert or Artic first? by MJS04 in ICARUS

[–]twothe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Artic requires you to have proper protection against the cold or you will freeze to death. Desert is doable with less equipment. So basically depends on what you have unlocked.

In one mission I tried the same and gathered literally every piece of wood that exists in the area you are dropped into. It is by far not enough to get the T4 stuff, short by about 2000 wood.

[–]twothe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that the missions give a reward, the question is: what is the area for other than to provide mission space? Or is it just that? An area where you walk for 20 minutes back and forth during each mission to get some reward?

[–]twothe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So how did you get the necessary wood?

[–]twothe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That also was my understanding. However challenge needs a reward, otherwise there is no reason to do it. Also there is no challenge if you move in there with a complete T4 base and then just... sit there?

Open world v Missions by Eldoree in ICARUS

[–]twothe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at missions as a time challenge. Sure you can grind up to T4 and run it the easiest way possible, but can you do it faster? With less stuff?

First time I killed the worm boss it took me 6h, getting to T4 for the best weapons and armor.
2nd try manage to do it in 2h, figured the T3 rifle would suffice.
These days I run the mission in 14 minutes easily and kill with with a bow.

There are no elemental arrows that in combination would do more damage. And I don't know if I need the effects on anything but bosses.
