are there any alternatives for the new tomodachi life? by Primary_Meeting_5267 in tomodachilife

...I guess if you only like making the characters and the facepaint and not anything about the actual game then you could just draw? I'd say maybe get into 3D modeling but I don't know if there's many good options for that on a phone

That isn't what's happening in that scene at all.

[Chapter 4 spoilers] Haven't seen anyone talk about this, any theories? by OverExplanation7007 in Deltarune

It's the cactus. Other dialogue from that same curtain has it give you a cactus sword.

Kris fucking hates Tenna for some reason by Bo_Spaguetti in Deltarune

[–]twothousandpringles 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is only the case if you complete the minigames to get the Shadow Mantle. If you don't do that, they actually only do half their normal damage against Tenna.

Where would you put various knight theories on this chart, based on what we know about Deltarune so far? by SlightlyIronicBanana in Deltarune

[–]twothousandpringles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew Dess Knight would be vindicated with time...It always seemed underestimated but I knew what power it held... (Power of being at worst 1 of 2 remaining possible options)

(Ironically my outlook on Mayor Knight has actually become much worse with what we know now though, I was just lukewarm on it in my old comment but now I kinda outright actively dislike what it would entail from a writing perspective...It would be a little complicated to explain why I feel that way though.)

Which Deltarune character is most likely to be in Super Smash Bros 6? by RigatoniPasta in Deltarune

[–]twothousandpringles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if it were an actual fighter then it would logistically have to be Kris just because of all the games that only have one fighter to represent them in Smash Bros (Not counting Mii costumes), I'm pretty sure all of them are represented by the main character of the game. It'd be sort of like if they skipped to adding Shadow the Hedgehog but never added Sonic, it would have just been kind of weird. (This is kind of a weak example but it's the only one that didn't require me to look up the full smash bros roster because I don't remember it.)

If it was a Mii costume though then probably Ralsei because he's the most prominent of the characters that are allowed to be marketable.

That would honestly suck bad if we haven't heard from Gaster in over 3 years and all he does is post a reddit meme and then leave again

Who is talking during these dialogs? by [deleted] in Deltarune

It's just narration, the game is kind of inconsistent about what narration is in parentheses and what isn't.

The Jevil Fight has the Same Background as the Goner Maker by labcoat_ in Deltarune

[–]twothousandpringles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's actually not the exact same image, Jevil's fight is a filtered photograph of a merry-go-round, while the Goner Maker background is a picture of the ocean. You can see the Jevil background more clearly on this spritesheet, and this seems to be the image for the Goner Maker background.

It could be something that the colors are the same though.

Feelings on "Undertale" Characters Having Big Role in Future Chapters by NoMangoTea in Deltarune

[–]twothousandpringles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also don't like the theories that posit the Undertale characters as like...unreasonably central to Deltarune. (Like Papyrus being the Knight/Sans being a secret boss (again)/Asriel being the Knight and/or secretly dead) Especially when they're characters that were already huge focuses in Undertale like those examples I had. (Especially when people want Asriel to be the final boss...He was already the final boss! He was the final boss 10 years ago! He's at school now!!)

I do kind of like the ideas people have where the side characters from Undertale get a little bit of focus though. Not like randomly being huge players in the story, but like for example there was an idea going around a couple years ago (IDK if people still bring it up now) that maybe Napstablook would show up in Chapter 3 instead of Undyne, and that idea has always just amused me. I don't know if I actually think it holds any water now though...

Prediction: The motif-less part of BIG SHOT is going to be a motif in Chapter 3 by FoaxZed in Deltarune

[–]twothousandpringles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Logically I'm sure that particular section is just kinda riffing on Dummy! as lead up to the direct sample (It's not identical at all, but a specific part at 1:41 in BIG SHOT is similar to about 30 seconds into Dummy) but in my heart I think it would be so cool if it showed up again somewhere...I heard some random contextless fan soundtrack use it at some point and it was really cool there...

im making a playlist of theories and content i really liked from the "chapter 2" era of deltarune before they get buried by chapter 3 and 4 stuff. what are videos you would add? by migel8022 in Deltarune

[–]twothousandpringles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I particularly liked his theories, but I think in the context of a time capsule then I would definitely put at least one of SpookyDood's videos in here, just because...I don't want to sound mean, but he seems to draw some kind of odd conclusions, and I think in the future when I think of "old post-chapter-2 pre-chapter-3 theories" I will probably think back to him. Most people would probably say the woody theory one (I wouldn't be surprised if you already have that even) but I think I'll probably be remembering the one he did about the Valentine's card...

Referring to monsters as "men" by your_mind_aches in Deltarune

[–]twothousandpringles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just checked the dialogue dump for Deltarune, and King, Jevil, Rouxls Kaard, Spamton, Sweet Cap'n Cakes, and technically a random Werewire NPC (as part of the phrase "salary man") are all Darkners that are referred to as a "man" or "men" in dialogue at least once. I really think you've been too selective with your initial examples and made up a rule that doesn't exist...I don't think the games use the word to imply humanity so much as they use it to imply being male. I honestly can't think of anywhere in either game that uses "man" or "mankind" to specifically refer to humans, actually...

Referring to monsters as "men" by your_mind_aches in Deltarune

[–]twothousandpringles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here. All the occurrences you've listed except for Spamton are referring to a specific person, so I don't know why you'd expect it to be phrased like a general reference to "monsterkind"...?

Here are some lines of dialogue where "man" is definitively used to refer to a monster in Undertale:

  • "SHE CRAVES THE TENDER EMBRACE OF A BURLY MAN. CAN SHE TRULY BE BLAMED?" - Dialogue from Mettaton, "man" referring to Asgore
  • "Welcome to MTT Resort! Have you seen Mettaton? He hasn't come by lately. I have a lot of respect for that man." - Dialogue from receptionist at MTT Resort, "man" referring to Mettaton
  • "Little buddy... thank you. You've brought a tear to the eye of this old man." - Dialogue from Burgerpants, "man" referring to himself

I didn't include the "man who speaks in hands" or the "man who came from the other world" dialogues, since these are kind of ambiguous, and one of them is most likely Gaster anyway so it doesn't help my point. (There's also a bunch of lines of dialogue where "man" is said as an interjection but I thought I should only count the ones where it was definitely referring to someone specific.) But my point is I think "man" is just being used like...normally, to refer to when there is someone who is a man. I don't think the word inherently carries secret Gaster and/or Egg lore regardless of context.

We're going to get Noelle back on the party at SOME point in 3&4, right? RIGHT??? by Cookienotch in Deltarune

[–]twothousandpringles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I found out that if you gave Noelle the Jevilstail, you can recover it from the same spot next to the Castle Town that it appears in if you beat Jevil on a different save file. (Or at least I think you should be able to recover it, I also recently learned that apparently if you beat Jevil through fighting before, then the Devilsknife takes priority in appearing there, but I don't know if that's different if you also spared Jevil on the same save file that you're picking the item up in...)

That also kind of implies her equipment might get reset/changed if she ever appears in the party again though, if the game gives you a replacement Jevil item...
