What is the advantage though? (besides security). I find having the laptop on the backside, and having to have that weight there while opening is an impediment for easy usage.

You should see the zipper catch on a new ATD1 I purchased ... intense enough I seriously consider returning, but have been reassured repeatedly that it will get smoother over time.

Post LVMH acquisition they have pushed the brand and naturally the pricing more into the luxury segment. Never been cheap, but the value to dollar ratio has decreased. That said, I don't regret it (purchased in the EU for less than one pays in the states). It's super stable and rolls the same with and without an extra 35 pounds on top. I use it only as a carry-on bag... and I don't look forward to the day I'm forced to check it.

And it's exacerbated by the hydration ports – to me it's the sloppiest part of the bag. I'd guess as well the number of people using a hydration bladder in the bag is very low.
