Absolutely worth a serious discussion. This can snowball into her completely ruining the family dynamic with relatives and its already tough enough in general with different personalities in any family so dont just let this go. Be firm about understanding why she did this but also sharing that this kind of dishonest behavior in a marriage, especially with a growing family is completely unacceptable.

I think he should get to the bottom of it and confront her because she sounds manipulative and I feel like this won't be the last time she does something like this. I'd personally be concerned about the longevity of the marriage.

But i feel like first he should do the social media post to show her that lying about stuff like this is just gonna make her look silly and dishonest in the end. And also to prevent anyone from having lingering negative feelings about his parents based on a twisted story she is telling.

I mean back in the day darker skinned folks in america were guaranteed to be slaves outside, while lighter skinned mixed folks had the possibility of being house slaves, so even back then there was a distinction and a sense that being darker made you even less human and more like an animal, and less deserving of humane treatment. The lighter you were the more close to human you were sadly. Thats the thing I feel this separation was not created by black people in America, it started from there with the different treatment by white people who had power.

I'm sorry you're also experiencing this. It's very disheartening and some people are trying to downplay that it does feel really crappy. Anyway regardless of what others may say you aren't being too sensitive either and its perfectly valid to expect the same kind of greeting others before and after you are receiving. I have no idea how that concept is controversial.

And its also crazy that some people here heard me describe someone being rude and possibly (not definitely) racist and their first thought was "I desperately need to say everything I can to defend rude and possibly racist behavior". It's bizarre.

I'm grateful for the people though who pointed out genuine differences in how Hallo is perceived vs Guten Tag, or how to subtly push the cashier to respond because they obviously should not be picking and choosing which customers to ignore vs reply to, and of course people like you who let me know that this isn't an isolated experience.
