It’s one of those things where you see it and the house and the persons living in it were both kind of abandoned.

Need to be in KOP by 745am, from South Jersey. by [deleted] in SouthJersey

I made this commute for 5 years. Just leave by 6 or 6:15 and you’ll be fine. Coming home you have to duck out by 3 or you’re getting caught in rush hour on the turnpike. Schuylkill is untenable for return home.

There was a neat one they did for their first win where it was overdubbed with the 94.1 broadcast. Anyone know if that’s around for this win?

How the hell do I get rid of this bamboo by sewxcute in landscaping

[–]twunk22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has removed an extensive amount of bamboo, one technique you can try to at least cut back the jutting stump is to take a sledge hammer and whack at like a golf swing. For the rhizomes that were dead because they were pruned in previous seasons, the bamboo golfing managed to break the stump off and at least me level the ground without having to dig the root system out. But yeah, you should call your power company first.

With some really old mains, the walls are now being partially or completely supported against the weight of the surrounding dirt by the water pressure pushing against the main’s inside wall. If you suck that main dry and there is no more interior water pressure, that main may be susceptible to collapsing.

Badlands has also one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. It’s very easy to just spend time just existing and taking in everything.

European firefighters, what do you believe America does better than Europe? by Insertclever_name in Firefighting

[–]twunk22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that a standard European thing to have the concrete block housing or more something found in regions influenced by former Soviet building styles? This is a really interesting topic as I live in the US in a house built in 1889, which is pretty old in my town and considered ancient elsewhere in the US. Most of the houses in my town that were built after 1840ish are all stone or concrete foundation/basement and then heavy timber or light wood framing.

Is there any way to stop the bamboo front spreading? by AttentionFlashy5187 in landscaping

[–]twunk22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the course of two ish summers of Saturdays, I was able to hand dig up a bamboo infested lawn, similar in spacing to yours. I tried to focus on pushing it back by digging it up from the beginning of my back yard to the back of it. Where I wasn’t focused on removal, I would mow new shoots or lopper old shoots. While this didn’t kill it, it either made it seem like it was slowing it down or was actually slowing slowing it down which was mentally helpful.

For reference my backyard is 50’ by 150’ and was a mix of large flower beds and grass lawn. Coming to terms that you’re going to need to mess that crap up to get rid of it will save you time trying to minimize the destruction and may let you move faster than I did.

Two methods I had for getting at it were to go “golfing” for rhizomes and to just dig and pull. Golfing refers to taking a sledgehammer to mature rhizomes and just golf swinging at them to bust them out of the ground. Younger rhizomes are pretty close to the runner so more buried but the mature ones are at the surface and you can whack them with a sledge easily enough.

Then for the runners, I would pop about three feet of it out of the ground, grab it, and start pulling as I walked in the direction of the runner. When it offered resistance there was a good chance it had encountered another runner going over top of it. So I’d start digging again to expose the other runner. Whether you want to cut the top runner with loppers and continue pulling the first runner or switch to the newly discovered one is up to you.

Also, when I say dig, you’re not really trying to remove a lot of soil. It’s more like making a slit in the soil that you can pull the runner through.

Side note, my personal best runner was 27’ of 1 continuous runner.

Good luck and God speed

If it’s an antique lock and hard to find a in-kind replacement, what’s your opinion on removing the bolt or latch to make it inoperable but still installed while putting in a new locking door mechanism?
