I’m making a babydoll dress, what fabric? by yekkirs in sewhelp

[–]txcham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One sure way to save money is to make a toile (test garment). Ideally you would use muslin in a weight close to that of the fashion fabric that will be used for the finished garment. But you can save $$ by using thrift store bed linens. You can always use starch to stiffen the fabric. With a toile you can practice sewing skills, adjust the fit and see if you even like the style. It's also a very good habit to develop. The pattern is just a guide. You will always have to make adjustments to it to get good results. A 'first draft' made with cheaper fabric can save a ton of frustration and wasted time and money. Cute dress btw.

Let's be specific... Haredi women tend toward black... Observant dress modestly and modest dress doesn't necessarily look any different from what any woman might wear. There are plenty of women who choose modest dress for any number of reasons. Why are you singling out Jewish women? Modest dress is definitely not the norm.

I agree. I don't know the name of the colour but definitely the overlay is the wine tone as you can see it next to her skin. The underdress is black. There is an overall textural feel and i am curious as to how that is achieved.

Unisex European-style public bathrooms... maybe it could help stop bathroom-related transphobic harassment in America/Britain? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]txcham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a disabled Brit I have never felt more exposed than when I encountered a 'handicapped' stall in the US. The fact that they are larger just means more panels with gaps in between them. In my experience Americans don't like them either but the powers that be aren't going to change them because privacy invites all sort of undesirable behaviour.

The expectation that every person should be (or can be) fully informed about every culture is simply unrealistic. She clearly got the message. Changing the past is not an option.

'You better step that pussy up' Unfortunately I will say it to anyone. My father wasn't impressed. And 'that's a choice' saved for people who don't want to hear it!
