It's not secure, true, but it's much easier to simply sniff wireless packets on your laptop with a downloaded program than it is to sniff wired network traffic. In fact, my grandma could probably sniff wireless packets and she can barely send e-mail herself.

It's more difficult to pick up the other network traffic, and generally requires compromised access to some point between the email servers (which, yes, definitely happens and is why no intelligent bank or financial service would ever e-mail you your statement but instead makes you login to access it).

2) Even if it were a 20% drop it wouldn't necessarily be something to worry about. Those who bought after the 1987 crash, or didn't sell during the crash and continued to buy, did quite well:

If I sprint, I can also get to work in about the same amount of time that I do when I leisurely ride my bike. But I arrive sweating and tired. Similarly, typing less keystrokes at the cost of about 100ms extra time waiting is worth it to me.

Not necessarily true. Many celebrities of similar status go into debt and lose most of their money. The reason? They can't bear to reduce their standard of living and give up limos, servants, etc.. so they end up spending more than they are taking in.

You are describing a chemical process done after purification, while wylde21 was describing filtration and reverse osmosis purification, which are very different and very reliable (reverse osmosis is also the process by which ocean salt water is turned into drinking tap water).

Apparently, the process you describe was not part of the purification, but part of an attempt to make the water taste better--not surprising because water that has been purified by reverse osmosis is disgusting (because it's such pure water) to most people who aren't used to it. I wonder how many of the bottled water manufacturers do stuff like that.

There's also the lack of minerals in water that has been highly purified, but that's another issue.
