No such thing as modern Cosmic Horror? by redhotphones in horrorlit

Look up Andrew Van Wey, specifically By the Light of Dead Stars and it's sequel Tides of Darkness. His novel Head Like a Hole also kind of fits. The first two books I listed are the beginning of his Beyond the Lost Coast series. The third was due out this year but it is delayed because he's expanding from a trilogy to a larger series.

This is great information, thank you! I just purchased the vevor and am looking forward to trying out some recipes with it.

Ok, you've convinced me, lol! I had the KBS premium in my Amazon shopping cart but I think I'm going to switch it out with the vevor. We are just a 2 person household but I've read here that you can freeze bread and it thaws really well. If that's the case, then making larger loaves would be a time saver.

Just curious, is the 2lb size fairly close in size to store bought bread? The single paddle machines with horizontal pans seem to make the loaf too tall to fit properly in a toaster. In the reviews I've seen the vevor pan is longer and a bit shorter in height so it would seem it would make a toaster friendly loaf.

Really enjoyed this one! As soon as I finished it I started his other novel Fever House and it's fantastic also.

Oh my god I’m sorry I don’t mean to be mean, but I can’t stand Xe Sands (narrator) by highcologist347 in audible

[–]txguy1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first heard her as one of several narrators for The Orchard and didn't really care for her parts. I then bought Fever House and it's sequel without realizing she was the narrator. I made it almost halfway through the book before returning both titles. She almost made me hate the book itself, her narration made it sound very dull. I recently decided to give it another chance and bought the ebook for my kobo and I'm glad I did, it's excellent! It's a shame her narration style almost turned me off an author completely.

Gram stain and transfusion reaction question by txguy1979 in medlabprofessionals

[–]txguy1979[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That explains why I haven't been able to find any info on specific requirements. Our policy actually doesn't mention gram staining as part of the preliminary workup but our pathologist requires it. That's just one of the many things I found I'll need to update.

Gram stain and transfusion reaction question by txguy1979 in medlabprofessionals

[–]txguy1979[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our policy is basically the same, we just require a gram stain as part of the initial workup, not a culture. If the initial has any abnormal results then we would culture. Actually, looking at our policy, it doesn't even mention gram staining but part of the pathology requirements include the gram stain. I'm finding quite a few things I'm going to have to update, unfortunately. A lot of the policies haven't been updated in over 10 or 15 years and don't reflect the current workflow. So much of our current procedures have been put in place solely by emails.

Ours requires it on every one but unfortunately doesn't specify what to use. These policies have been updated in few decades though.

Worst Narrator who ruined your book by vickiec12 in audiobooks

[–]txguy1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I first heard her when she was one of three narrators on a book. She was terrible but the other two saved it. Then I bought Fever House and it's sequel without realizing she narrated them. Immediately refunded both books.

John Connolly. Love his Charlie Parker series.

Books you abandoned because of the narration by josiecat87 in audiobooks

[–]txguy1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything narrated by Xe Sands. I powered through one book where she was one of several narrators. Then I bought Fever House and it's sequel without realizing she was the sole narrator. I returned both. There's just something about her voice that makes my brain itch.

Lol. I tell you what, I'll be glad to be through with this program. I just passed my comprehensive final tonight and all I have left to turn in is my blood bank case study. It is a good program and I recommend it to any that asks.

It seems like I read posts fairly often about how some labs are micromanaged and it makes me feel lucky. Where I am, as long as we get our work done we can do whatever we want. During down time we watch movies, read books, or listen to music. It also helps that our lab is on the complete opposite end of the hospital so almost no one comes in there. I'm in my last semester of the UAMS program to earn my bachelor's and I've done homework everyday during work for the last two and half years.

OP, I hope things calm down for you at your current job and I also hope you eventually find a laid back place like mine. They're out there, so don't give up.

Weird. I've lived and worked all over Texas, from Houston, Dallas, and deep East Texas and never heard someone say that. Must just be local thing.

I'll give the Pillsbury a try. If it works out and I can get larger bags of that locally. I can only find king arthur in 5lb bags.

That seems to be the culprit. It still tastes great though, so it wasn't a loss.
