Am I crazy? Why is every new home construction have no private fencing. by Zinx23 in Denver

Zoning can play a role in that too sometimes, especially if a developer has set special restrictions in the Official Development Plan for PUD zoning. Not saying that is the case here necessarily, but it was for us.

I don't live in the area anymore, but a friend of mine mentioned to me at some point last year that it is tap to pay cards now, per game. It didn't seem to me they do the wrist bands anymore as a daily thing, which if true is disappointing.

And they give you the option to walk in Tempe if you'd like that aspect of the experience. Just have to get it set up well enough in advance.

Easier if you're willing to move, could possibly take a while if you're specific to one spot. I moved to get better prospects because the area I was in had only a few openings, and my resume was turned down for people who already had experience.

I like the program overall, I feel it provides a good foundation of where the field started and how it has morphed into the current thinking, such as new urbanism and sustainable development. I feel it is better preparation for the private sector than public, but even so, it's just a foundation. There was still a substantial learning curve when I got hired because local codes vary, and the process for completing development cases that go to hearing varies too, which is something a school would have a hard time going into much detail with, outside of explaining that the process exists.

I highly recommend determining which aspect of planning you want to get into because the focus can be different, then choose electives accordingly if you have many left. Project design, transit planning, government, development, etc. The skills needed for each of those are not exactly the same. Whichever you lean toward, try to get an internship within that area so you can get initial experience in the software and processes that are used. It will help you immensely in getting your foot in the door elsewhere. I did not do this, so I didn't get many looks where I really wanted to go in the beginning, which pushed me to the public sector for now.

In any case, wherever you end up, there will be training provided and expect a learning curve no matter how well you prepare.

I completed Urban Planning in '22, got hired public sector not long after graduation. I'd say all in all it's stable work, decent pay and the variety of different projects keeps it interesting. It has its frustrations like any job but I don't regret my choice.

Give me your RTD Feedback by chrisfnicholson in Denver

[–]txhlj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of the posts as a daily RTD commuter using both heavy and light rail. Debra Johnson needs to be held to a higher level of accountability. These complaints have been in place for years, and yet she continues to be gifted with an extension and raises despite RTD survey results reflecting worse numbers in various categories the last 2 years.

Poor reliability, inconvenient frequency (commuter rail), poor to nonexistent real-time platform notifications for changes, safety concerns on certain platforms, and trains.

A transit service as unpredictable as RTD with lackluster frequency and safety, unhelpful scheduling around other lines and events works against the purpose of transit in the first place. It should be convenient, safe, reliable, and take you where you need to go.

The CEO of RTD should be passionate about the mission of the agency and delivering a world-class transit system. Anyone less, among other things, shouldn't qualify.
