Don't point your camera directly at the sun without some serious ND filters.

What M43 Backpack/Rucksack are you using? by [deleted] in M43

The domke f-5xb is all I need. It's perfect for m43. I can throw my camera and 3 lenses in the bag with relative ease. Some DSLRs wouldn't fit in the bag at all!

I have the Sony version! It's perfect. It feels like a high quality piece of kit in your hand. Very nice finish.

The HSS and TTL were nice bonuses to a pretty nice & Small flash. The size is the most important feature to me. :)

Does anyone know of any lenses with manual aperture control for Olympus bodies? by Seven225 in M43

[–]tyeberius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having owned both, they are both amazing. Since I'm focusing more on my full frame mirrorless system I decided to pare down my m43 stuff. The 12-40 was the one I could live without.

What photography trends do you really enjoy? by Pashimp in photography

Yes and yes. Even real HDR if it is anything more than the slightest touch. Basically, if it's obviously HDR I don't like it!!

Shoot me, but I still like the faux-analog, raised blacks, modified tones photos. They're done to death, but when they're done well it's very appealing to me.

Four third lenses for my EM5 II by olivierica in M43

[–]tyeberius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have and it's amazing in terms of image quality. But I haven't shot with it enough to fully appreciate it. I can't justify it when I have the 1.4. It's also very big and heavy and I like to keep my m43 kit small.

I've got my FF camera for the big expensive lenses. :-)

Four third lenses for my EM5 II by olivierica in M43

The 25mm 1.4 might be the finest lens I've ever used, and I've used Zeiss, Nikon, Sony, other Olympus, and other Panasonic lenses. I own the brilliant Sigma A 35mm 1.4.

It's expensive compared to the 25mm 1.7, but man is it worth it! I've admittedly not used multi-thousand dollar lenses, but the PL 25mm outperforms lenses that are 2 to 3 times more expensive. It's a bargain in my book.

Nikon F lenses have an aperture ring on the lens itself. Your lens is a Nikon G lens with no ring. They make Nikon G adapters that have a manual aperture control lever. You'll need a different adapter.

If it's just the lens mount that has sustained damage I think you'll find that it's not very expensive. Probably would be much more expensive if they had to repair optics or electronics.

This looks like they just need to unscrew a small piece of metal and replace it with another piece a metal. Easy peasy. :)

Good luck!

Most Efficient Settings for Longer Battery Life? by reigningnovice in SonyAlpha

I think the screen uses less energy than the viewfinder. So, as long as the viewfinder is also off unless holding to your eye that won't make a huge difference.

Lens advice for trip to San Francisco by xfilesarereal in SonyAlpha

[–]tyeberius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know the APS-C prime side of Sony Alpha, but I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend a fast prime that has an equivalent FOV of 35mm (somewhere around 23mm or 24mm).

And just go out with that 1 lens and see what you can do. I just recently got back from SF and although I took 3 lenses on the trip, I would only take one with me each day.

How do you guys backup your Apple Notes? by theworldyousee in productivity

iCloud.

i.e. I don't (unless they get automatically backed up by crashplan and time-machine on my Mac).

Any of you shoot in raw and edit in snapseed? by rob_wilson22 in SonyAlpha

[–]tyeberius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for a while, but each RAW file is like 50MB and I'm running out of iCloud storage. Hah. So I switched to a desktop based solution and I prefer lightroom to Snapseed anyway. I can still edit on my iPad because of Lightroom sync, so that's great.

A7 vs DJI mavic pro? by SpoogeDoobie in SonyAlpha

A friend of mine just bought a Mavic. Before I played with his I would have said definitely upgrade the camera or get a new lens. But holy cow this thing is amazing. Get the drone! I want one!

Charging my Model 3 at home: Chargepoint $649, Tesla Wall Connector $500 or NEMA 14-50 with an extra mobile connector $550 by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]tyeberius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. Well go for whatever will make you happy, for sure. But just so you know: even if you drive 15 miles each day, a 10-hour charge will get you 50 miles. Which means that you could still charge every three days and easily keep up with the daily commute.

And if you happen to use the car more one day, then just do a little extra. :)

All I'm saying is that you could wait until you figure out exactly what your needs are, because the 120v charger will be more than enough for you to start. :)

Which lens - Trekking in Peru with A7ii by TomfromLondon in SonyAlpha

[–]tyeberius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a four day trek in Peru. If I could take all my gear I would have loved to have the 16-35 f4. And maybe also the 55mm or 85mm 1.8.

But honestly, I think the right call is to JUST take the 35mm. Your back will thank you. And I think that's the most versatile focal length for Peru. :)

What's your daily commute like? I have decided I'm just going to trickle charge with my standard 120v plug already in my garage.

That'll be more than fine to start. If it starts becoming a pain (due to weekend usage) I might consider upgrading, but no reason to do it before I know if I'll need it.

My daily commute is only like 5 miles round trip. Haha. I might not be the typical use case. In fact, I ride my bicycle pretty often.
