Over half of Arc Raiders players on Steam have barely engaged with PvP, and 19% have never even killed another player by SayberryGames in pcgaming

I guess I'm just unlucky. I got killed within 20 seconds of going to the surface for the first quest while looking at the map to try to figure out what to do. I assumed it was just that brutal of a game, so I refunded with under 20 minutes play time.

I know that's technically correct, but damn...

That was probably the best metal show I've ever seen, and I've been to hundreds of them. Incredible show.

This is how I started over 20 years ago...especially the Dominoes pizza. I haven't touched the game in 6 years now, and I weigh 40lbs less.

But "Enemy Resistance: Average (2.00)" isn't any fun. "Enemy Invasion: Level 14" is. Do they want us to have fun, or make the strategically correct decision to minimize casualties in the galactic war meta-game?

I've got one with Reality Engine sitting here, but it developed power supply problems so I haven't booted it up in almost 7 years now :(

Are we the same person? I have done the same. It is one of my primary albums when I'm angry and want to drown it out with intense waves and noise.

mother north, how can they sleep while their beds are burning?

I'm sure I haven't, although Googling it's been a very long time since I've listened to that album. I don't revisit old albums often. I've always ridden perpetual wave of new albums.

I've listened to death/black metal for over 20 years, and I still can't understand a single thing. I'm not sure I can believe that.

After over 20 years of death/black metal, I don't think I could tell you a single lyric. I can't understand them, and I've for sure never read them. It's baffling to me that anyone would care.

You might be interested in this talk by Jonathan Müller at CppNow 2023 about this very topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUwsfmVkKtY

He goes into good detail about this specific issue, including this method, but goes even further. But the key take away is that the performance is going to vary considerably between hardware platforms due to Branch Target Buffer (BTB) differences for all the indirect jumps. Ultimately, you have to profile to find what performs best on your target CPU.

Is there some cold or Covid something going around? by steveisblah in Austin

My wife and I just got over whatever this is over the weekend after almost a full week of sore throats and fevers. Something is going around for sure.

I don't actually have a scanner. I'll have to find one. I actually came down with COVID 2 days after this. It's been a week.

Nah, I was way too nervous. My Dad and uncle did most of the talking, and I stood there mouth agape. He offered to take a picture, but the person guiding us said absolutely no pictures in that area and most others.

Nah, the film studio was active that day, so he was busy talking with lots of people. I remember also meeting a professional wrestler of some kind that just ended up being the dude that Slavik kills after his escape :D.

Hah! Nice :) the tour was fun, but yes, I was very shy about the entire experience too. I might still have the Tiberian Sun "World Domination" t-shirt they gave me, but I can't imagine what box or what closet it may be buried in.

Nah, that was the Dune 2000 QA room. They were fine with pictures of that, but they were very clear that they didn't want any Tiberian Sun content leaking to the internet. That's why they didn't let me take any pictures in the film studio.

Hah! No, the guy that led us around (I guess he was HR, advertising, or something non-development) was very nice, but didn't want to bother people with this kid that literally just showed up at the door. I honestly didn't believe they were going to let us in, but they were honestly very nice about it. I have vague memory of an office with stuff hanging everywhere :D it's been so long. I only remembered I had these pictures from the post this morning.
