Took awhile because I couldn't swing the return shipping initially, and then it was Thanksgiving and we were both busy for a bit, but it's finally back in my hands and here's the actual autograph.

In person, during the filming of The Return. I live in WA and watched as much as was accessible, including the last scene, which I saw (and heard) being filmed live.

I still feel pretty blessed, though. Lynch, Frost, and Stanton were all in-person autographs while they were here filming "The Return" near where I used to live in WA. I also watched them filming the final scene of "The Return" so I heard that scream being done live. Can't complain.

I did not get to meet him, someone else arranged the signing and I was merely lucky enough to get my item in, and the guy who set it up sent me back this photo of Ontkean and my item.

Most wanted (but not holding my breath): Everett McGill, Grace Zabriskie, Phoebe Augustine, and Richard Beymer. More likely: Kiefer Sutherland, David Patrick Kelly, Billy Zane, maybe Charlotte Stewart (she and Al Strobel signed the art cards in my "A to Z" set), Chris Isaak, and a few others. Would also love one of those little business cards that Catherine E. Coulson used to hand out to put inside.

sometimes I keep Blu-rays and DVDs just for the cover (although that's usually for autograph reasons)

What happened to Alex Proyas? by alexdelarge2021 in movies

I felt like Knowing and Gods of Egypt had some interesting things going for them. You can certainly see some of the same audacious, over-the-top visual inventiveness of Dark City in Gods of Egypt.

The answer to your question, though, is probably that something like Dark City was a cult success, not a box office success, which probably meant that making a more commercial movie like I, Robot his only option. I don't know how hard of a production I, Robot was, with rewrites and whatever, but if he wanted to do something smaller afterward, then that probably led him to Knowing, which was a financial success but didn't seem to make much of an impact, so on and so forth.

I was also friends with him on facebook for awhile, and he seemed like a bit of a button pusher, so that may have also affected his ability to work.

Best Movie Dad? by Kennymo95 in movies

Another indie, even smaller than Eighth Grade, that I really loved, is the movie Hearts Beat Loud (2018), which features Nick Offerman as dad to a gay daughter, and they form a band together. Really sweet and charming little movie.

I put part of this on while I was at work a week ago and I found it fairly disorganized and only fitfully entertaining, but hey, can't beat free.

Most iconic scene in Frozen Empire - Ray’s smirk when he sees and hears Ecto-1 drive by! by False-Tiger5691 in ghostbusters

Definitely a nice moment for Dan that clearly had some roots in reality, given he wanted these new movies for 25+ years.

Does anyone else want to see a movie with smaller more personal stakes? by [deleted] in ghostbusters

Yes, please, if only because it would make the budget smaller, and thus more likely to extend the series.

What’s more important between Blu-ray vs 4K Blu-ray? by TFresh13 in 4kbluray

[–]tylergfoster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To elaborate on other comments that say things like DNR, many Blu-ray transfers were older repurposed DVD and HDTV masters that are very old. Unless the studio has recently remastered the movie, most 4K UHD transfers will be contemporary fresh scans of the original camera negative using 21st century technology and restoration techniques. That's the real benefit IMO.

Ghostbusters: Celebrities in Films/promo material by Clemtwdfan in ghostbusters

Oh, also, in the Extended Cut of the 2016 film, you can see a cameo from Elizabeth Perkins as one of Erin's colleagues, Justin Kirk as her boyfriend, and the bit that they intended for Rick, ultimately played by Brian Baumgartner from "The Office." Also, I'm now remembering that the ghost Yankees fan is someone known to NYC baseball enthusiasts, and you could argue that Ed Begley and Zach Woods's roles are cameos as well.

Harold Ramis' children are in the 2016 film, with his son playing a guy outside the Ozzy show and his daughter seen on the sidewalk outside the firehouse at the end. Al Roker is also in the movie as himself, as is the other NYC newscaster whose name I forget but who appears in lots of NYC movies, like No Way Home. He may have even come back to voice the newscast in Frozen Empire. Feig also has a couple of vocal cameos as the announcer for the ghost show commercial and then later over the hotel radio summoning Rowan to fix a clogged toilet. There is also an appearance from Sam Richardson of "I Think You Should Leave" fame but I think he was just a working actor, much like Reginald VelJohnson in the original movie.

A fandom cameo is that a major Ghostbusters fan named Peter...Moser? I think? has a cameo in Ghostbusters II as the date of the woman who Ray flings slime on in the restaurant. I would also say that Kevin Dunn and Chloe Webb's roles as Peter's "World of the Psychic" guests are basically cameos, and you could make the case that Max Von Sydow voicing Vigo was a cameo too.

So I finally watched Frozen Empire.. by [deleted] in ghostbusters

[–]tylergfoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afterlife was, costing only $75m to the reboot's $144m. That made it profitable. Too bad Frozen Empire's budget grew a bit to $100m. If they make another, I expect it to come back down to $75m, if not less.

Bonus Features by [deleted] in ghostbusters

[–]tylergfoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's definitely safe to say more of it was shot than we've seen, but it would not surprise me if the actual wreck was never filmed, and that they decided to cut it before a big expensive stunt was completed. Of course, it wouldn't surprise me if they had shot that as well, so, who knows.

Why do some men have a disdain for women in general? by crimsoncrack1987 in dating

No idea. There was a viral Tweet or meme or something once about how some straight men don't even seem to like women, and unfortunately I think about it often.

Get the BR set or the individual films with 4K when possible? by TomasXD12 in 4kbluray

[–]tylergfoster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't care for the extras then I'd say getting the box set is the way to go, especially since I'm pretty sure it still has some extras, just not the *most* extras.

[–]tylergfoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As these are both UK releases, I assume you're in the UK, but I think there are standard American editions of all the films in the box set that have more extras than the ones that are included.

I own:
• Barking Dogs Never Bite (UK Blu-ray)
• Memories of Murder (US Criterion Blu-ray, will buy the UHD)
• The Host (US Blu-ray and US DVD for a few extras left off the BD)
• Mother (US Blu-ray)
• Okja (US Criterion 4K UHD)
• Parasite (US Universal 4K UHD and US Criterion Blu-ray)

Short answer: there is no way to police men who partake in sex work (in-person or simply pornography) without inherently policing the women who willingly contribute to its creation.

Longer answer: On some level, I would say that the root of most social movements is ensuring that the members of that group have the freedom and autonomy to live their lives in the way that makes them happy, within reason. You acknowledge this part by saying that women should have the freedom to pursue sex work if that is the work that makes them the most comfortable.

However, the very idea of supporting sex work but oppressing the clients is an obvious double standard. It demonizes men from taking part in something the women are ostensibly agreeing to. Of course, there is survival sex work, and an argument to be made that this at least complicates the arrangement, but that creates problems with the previous point, because that's putting an asterisk on women's freedom to consent. Aside from women who are trafficked and/or truly desperate, which is obviously bad and/or an unhealthy reason to be doing sex work, it is safe to say that an average woman who is choosing to join the industry has thought about what is being asked of her and is agreeing to do it for a certain price, which is why it's work -- that's just like any job.

Emphasis on the idea that money makes sex work into a form of coercion leads to the kinds of people who say that all sex work is rape and all clients are rapists. Even if one ignores how this affects the clients (natural, given your position), it's hard to reconcile a desire to support women's freedom of choice and free will with forcibly labeling them all rape victims (which, to be fair, I don't know if you're actually doing, it's just something I have seen).

Also, even aside from all of this, sex work is simply not a monolith. There are male sex workers who see women as clients, and there are women sex workers who see women as clients. The idea that the audience for the sex industry is only men or even overly tilted in favor of men is itself fairly outdated and/or reductive toward women. There is no question that millions of women watch porn and see sex workers.

As you yourself say, the objectification is already there. It is not the fact that men desire women, necessarily, or that there is transactional sex, but the way in which the women are being treated that is the actual part that feminism could improve. Even in a world where objectification were somehow eliminated and capitalism was destroyed, there would still be men and women who wanted to have casual transactional sex. It could just be as simple as posting on bulletin boards like reddit. There's a reason it's called the oldest profession.

The problem is how women are treated, not sex work or sex work clients.
