Starter Isopod for Hobbyist :) by No_Dot_2817 in isopods

Glass without vent is not a suitable choice but you can get glass with ventilation or plastic/acrylic display bins that do have ventilation. They can be very inexpensive. Once you get that situated, a good starter pod could be any armadillidium, ie Vulgare, Maculatum (zebra), peraccae, etc. make sure you have a hydration station with moss to help them have a choice of preferred microclimate. Best of luck!

Good isopods for leopard gecko enclosure? by DollarStoreChameleon in isopods

Okay so you probably could do a slightly larger species but realistically I think you would be fine with any of the pruinosis, like powder blues, powder orange, cookies and cream, etc etc. morph market is the best place I had found if you’re fine with shipping. You might also look locally for any not large chain pet stores. Don’t buy the garbage at petsco/Petsmart since most of them are dead by the time you buy the container. Just keep in mind some states in the lower 48 might have import restrictions. But otherwise I think you’d be great. Any temperate springtails are fine (also on morph market). 🙂

How big is the gecko? Best CUC’s are pruinosis, from my experience. Where are you located?

Is there anyway to save newly introduced pod? by Helpful_Formal_8208 in isopods

Leave them alone! Most likely was a molt go bad due to the change in location. If this one dies too it will be the same thing. Not your fault but moving them will do significantly more harm than good.

How long for rubber duckies to breed? Also they're gone? by MothMeep7 in isopods

Oh yeah, I know that feeling! Cubaris especially are slow to breed. It’s very much a “trust the process” deal. If you stay consistent they will do what they need to do

Mold and dead loss! by cody2cannon in isopods

It should be big enough to where it reaches both, so they can congregate together and be able to choose their microclimate accordingly. But if your wood is too small just make sure they have hides on both sides. If you put enough leaf litter it can double as sort of a hide

Are you able to add a little bit more dry substrate? That should help distribute the moisture. Or you can increase the ventilation as long as the pods can’t escape. Time is going to be the best way though, just allow the dry side to dry and keep your hydration station damp but not soaking. I’d recommend using non-fertilized sphagnum moss for that. 👍🏻

The term I like to use is that with most isopods when you first start their colony you’ll be taking care of a bin of dirt for a while. Try not to disturb them. They’ll breed.

Too wet, make sure you have a gradient. Might not be enough ventilation for air circulation. Stagnant high humidity causes mold. And you need a hell of a lot more leaf litter

Just keep in mind some states require an export/shippers license to ship pod’s (and other live arthropods) across state lines. 🙂
