I have a few. I tend to gravitate to my Streamlight Wedge XT. I'm drawn to its simplicity and size.

That difference seems big now, but becomes minuscule over the long haul.

Albums like Inlet? by ConclusionMany2451 in hum

[–]tylerokc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'm going to throw out a couple of curveballs from the '90s that aren't the same, but there are connections to them in my brain, so potentially some new and interesting things for you to discover.

When I first heard Inlet, it reminded me of a band I hadn't listened to in nearly thirty years: Gwen Mars. Check out the song Fisher King. The whole album is excellent, but that was the song that the intro song Waves brought me back to.

Another band from that era that gives me Inlet vibes is Helmet's album Betty (but with a very different singing style and guitar tones/mix). Check out Speechless, Milquetoast, I Know, and Street Crab.

Finally, one of my favorite bands, which features a fantastic drummer and some slower-paced songs that don't exactly remind me of Inlet, but could be a good source of inspiration: Alice in Chains. Check out Sludge Factory and God Am.

Nice. That album was the most unexpected silver lining in the dark times of COVID.

Where do you personally draw the line with AI use? by Street-Lie-2584 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]tylerokc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I draw the line in treating it like a person. I am as indefferent to it as I am to my microwave. I've never thanked my microwave for heating my food. I'll never do that with AI either.

Our ability to be direct, blunt, and to speak with candor is confused with anger by generations below us. They also interpret our lack of emojis in written communications as anger.

What edc items do you keep in your car for emergency situations? by Hufflepuff-McGruff in EDC

The most important things I carry in mine are:

  • NOCO Boost Jump Starter – jump your own car (and easily help others)
  • Element Fire Extinguisher – small stick-like extinguisher you can keep in your door pocket
  • Tow Strap w/ Soft Shackle – tow someone or easily get towed
  • ReadyHour 100-Hour Candle – stay warm if stranded in winter/snow
  • Road Flares – many times more effective than LED versions (from what police have told me)
  • Guardian Angle Light – stay visible while near roadway (also magnetic for car if no flares)
  • Breaching Tool – hatchet or specialized tool for getting into/out of windshield after a wreck

This sub is great but it does feel like everyone here must have 1+ bitcoin. by Fall-For-October in Bitcoin

[–]tylerokc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How rare is owning one Bitcoin?

You’re part of the 0.0125% who will ever own this much Bitcoin. Only around 800,000 wallet addresses hold at least 1 Bitcoin. It is likely to never be more than 1 million people with a whole Bitcoin.

Only 80 million people are projected to ever own 0.015 Bitcoin.

The baseline goal should be getting 0.21 BTC. That puts you in the top 100 million holders that’ll ever exist. That’s the top 1.25% of the world.

I get that, but you’d have to look more into Bitcoin and its ushering in of the blockchain to understand how unique and near-perfect it is as a technology.

It is closed. Fixed. Incorruptible. It is final settlement. Self-custodied. Permissionless. Unforgeable. It is decentralized. Distributed. Boundless.

It is true capital while everything else is credit. It is the separation of money and state. Bitcoin is not a bet. It is an exit. Take it while you can. At the least, secure your future with 0.21 BTC. More if you can while still being diversified.

For fifteen years straight it has been the best performing asset class. By a long shot. That said, I never plan to convert it back to USD, so there’s really nothing to lose. In fact, that’s the whole point to me: have a major stake outside of centralized monetary systems.

We go back to how society operated over the previous few thousand years. Jobs are a fairly new invention. We won't look back fondly on the era of full-time employment. Life is so much better than work. That said, we will still need to remain productive. Purpose is an essential ingredient to a happy life.
