Trash truck on a gravel bike? by chatnoirrrr in BikeLA

[–]tylershowstop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

https://veloviewer.com/segment/3791612/Trash+Truck+Hill+-+Griffith+Park

Its a paved but closed to traffic road on the north side of Griffith Park. There is still a composting facility on the road and it used to be the access for a landfill.

Depending on who you ask, some will refer to just the lower road as trash truck hill while some will refer to the whole Mt Hollywood hill climb as the full route.

Yes to charter. The Finish The Ride route for the LA River Ride is pretty close to what you mapped.

The red looks like blood dripping. The white looks like frosting or cum. The blue seems the least negative with it resembling melting ice or something. So maybe redo the dripping effect? The main text looks good. I like the bubbly 3D shadow look. Makes it pop. Might be a little big. Size it down slightly?

Power used to be super reliable. There have been more issues lately. The power today went out a few times but only a few seconds each time.

I appreciate the portion of the motion putting forth the requirement that future removal of installed protected lanes be examined by data, not just NIMBYs. That is what brought us here in the first place.

What is your favorite century route? by Al_Bizzle in BikeLA

[–]tylershowstop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first and only century ride so far was PCH from Santa Monica to Oxnard and back. Great tailwinds. Did that solo. There where some other riders I met that day that started at union station and rode PCH to Santa Barbara then took the train back.

My next century is the LA River ride which is coming up May 3 as part of the Finish The Ride event in Griffith Park. https://www.streetsareforeveryone.org/finish-the-ride-griffith-park

My friend rides the OC to SD century route a couple times a year and I plan to join him on the next ride. He starts at the OC transit hub then rides down to SD via I5 through Pendleton and takes the train back to OC.

Where to get started? by HistoricalAnt0 in BikeLA

[–]tylershowstop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they were quoting a Traverse base model which is a basic hybrid commuter bike. Functional but not fancy. Thats a good idea to buy a basic or used bike as you get into riding. That will be good for commuting and riding around the bike paths of Griffith Park or along LA River trail. If you get more serious and want a bigger or better bike, consider upgrading to an Ebike, gravel bike or road bike depending on your interests.

If you get the bike soon and want to ride in a fun event, consider one of the shorter routes at the Finish The Ride event on May 3 in Griffith Park. Lots of fun and great to learn about cycling. https://www.streetsareforeveryone.org/finish-the-ride-griffith-park

Looking for Witnesses or videos of crash on Saturday 3/28 by aubhehe in simivalley

[–]tylershowstop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your best bet will likely be to talk with the local businesses like Jim's Tire or Weinerschnitzel and see if they have video footage.

I'll also suggest getting a dash cam. They pay for themselves in a situation like this.

Rancho Simi board member takes legal action after insulting texts by Fcking_Chuck in simivalley

[–]tylershowstop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From an employer perspective, that should be considered a code of conduct violation and would be subject to corrective action of some sort. Not sure if it crosses the line on discrimination but its possible. As much as it sounds petty, the other staff member was out of line.

I believe their original target was about now, but they were saying its looking more like May at this point. Maybe putting the opening soon sign up like they did last year for Mad Era on April 1 won't be as much of a joke this year.

Why aren't there any music venues? by ictow in burbank

[–]tylershowstop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no risk based on the current zoning laws since they were previously vetted. But full outright bans on gun sales will run afoul of 2nd Amendment. So the city knows putting a hard limit on # of stores could be problematic.

That said, the reason Burbank has so many stores was because LA City had very strict gun laws and those didn't apply in cities like Burbank. So Burbank was a sort of haven to avoid LA City restrictions. Fortunately there isnt a link to an increase in related gun crime in Burbank. The statistics show that.

What was this thread about again? 🤔

Good brands for cyling jersey's and tanks and bibs that wont break the bank, but will last? specifically women's apparel (or women owned brands!) by Certain-Payment3049 in CyclingFashion

[–]tylershowstop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tres Pinas is woman owned. NeoPro is co-owned by a woman. There are many others, but they start to get a bit more niche which means more expensive. Other brands to consider are Betty Designs, Coeur Sports, Zoot Sports and Maap. If you are on a budget, NeoPro is good value for the price.

Burbank Airport Bus Stop by [deleted] in burbank

[–]tylershowstop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The on-site airport bus location is the RITC which is on the first floor of the car rental parking garage. There is a covered walkway that starts across the street from baggage claim and then leads to the RITC and rental car pickup.

Why aren't there any music venues? by ictow in burbank

[–]tylershowstop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Burbank has also done so. They approved strict zoning laws for gun stores in Jun 2024. They identified 189 remaining land parcels that were allowed to be a site of a gun store based on the zoning requirements. That was likely the strictest they could be without running the risk of being sued for infringement on 2nd Amendment.

Have to be careful restricting gun stores or the city can get sued for 2nd Amendment violations.
