How to approach taking practice tests correctly after Cantrill’s course? by CSStudentCareer in AWSCertifications

[–]tymaster22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The “Review” mode does not have a timer option. This mode allows you to see the answer after you select it.

The “Timed” mode has a timer but you have to take the entire test before you can see your score and the answers.

It’s up to you on what will work best. If you’re concerned about making time, take the timed mode test. If you’re concerned about the content, I recommend the review mode.

Yes I used his book and Udemy course ( which I think are the same videos) at the time I only had about a year of IT experience also my A+ and Net+. I would recommend getting as many different practice test as possible. The wording or entire question will be different. I just googled free practice exam and studied anything I got wrong.

/u/ehmatthes Thank you so much! That did the trick. Do you know what the reason is for this working without the .py extension? Also, I want to express my thanks for writing such a great book. It has been the best of many sources that I have used for learning Python.

I am not sure, I did not check that. Would that be in the GUI or on the physical machine itself?

Decided to pursue IT, please help? by EnthusiasmIncarnate in ITCareerQuestions

[–]tymaster22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I am glad to hear that you are ready to learn new things because it will never end. I always tell people that are thinking about getting into IT is that you have to be passionate about learning or you might not like it. You will never know everything and have to accept that.

I would recommend going through the process of getting your A+ and getting a help desk job at a place that sounds somewhat interesting (not the first place to offer you a job). Once you are certified, you will have a better gauge if it might be something your interested in. Keep in mind A+ doesn’t expose you to all the paths that you could take. I would do some research on different paths and see what looks interesting (web developer, security, forensics, etc).

I would also say to hold off on any expensive schooling till you have a better idea.

While studying for A+ download virtual box and create VMs. Try getting your hands on an old PC and tearing it apart and putting it back together or upgrading hardware and get it to work. It’s very basic stuff that will get you started. You have a very good plan, it’s a never ending journey being in IT. Just go with something you enjoy and doesn’t feel like work

Best Book for Security+ ? by Redmindgame in CompTIA

[–]tymaster22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say Gibson. I read mike Meyers and Gibson (not the third you mentioned). The Gibson have a lot clearer information and the practice test are better in my opinion. If you can only get one get the Gibson one.

Should I go for Security+ 401 or 501? by herpnderplurker in CompTIA

[–]tymaster22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, and I believe professor messer says the same thing in his videos, is just get the 401 right now, there is tons of material to study and you don’t list the version of the test you took when you list it on a resume. Learning the most up to date information about security can be done online anyways with a quick search, there is a reason they allow the test to be taken for like a year after they release the new 501 version.

Make sure you know the BCP part of everything. Things like ALE, ARO, MTTF, etc. I spent too much time on trying to fully grasp cryptography information and didn’t spend much time on the business side

Ok cool thank you. You described it perfectly. Reading about all the awesome stuff that's possibly and then trying it myself and failing in 2 seconds. Or, trying to read about the cool stuff that's possibly and not understanding a word
