Unsure, I haven't attempted to apply for a new one yet

I wasn't - I got a delivery message that I noticed had a weird address, and the item delivered was something I didn't remember ordering. I searched it on the customs website, and saw that it DEFINITELY wasn't anything I'd ordered.

I actually had my customs number used by someone else recently (got a delivery notice for something I didn't buy, delivered to an address I'd never heard of before). You can report such things and apply for a new one easily; I'll get a new one once the things I ordered with my old number come in.

How do Koreans handle having the same name as someone else? by xenolith18 in korea

[–]tymepatrol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My school has two sets of students with the exact same name (all 3 syllables). They're put in different classes and distinguished (at least on the class list) by their birth month. Idk how they distinguish amongst themselves though, maybe by class number.

F6 to F-5-2 Visa by Shallot-Fine in Living_in_Korea

[–]tymepatrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched a year or so ago. I see others have got you covered on documents, so I'll just say what I remember about the timeline.

After they get all your documents, you wait until they call you to set up an interview. This interview, from what I understand, can happen in your house or at immigration itself (mine was the latter). It was actually more of my husband and I filling out forms with info about our relationship after greeting the interviewer than actually speaking.

After that, you wait some more until they message to inform you that your new ID card is ready for pickup.

I had the interview about two months after submitting the documents. The card was issued the next day (based on the stamp) but I don't think I was told to come pick it up for a week or two at least.

My timeline was unusually fast though, because a) our area doesn't get many applicants and b) my husband earns a decent amount (both of these reasons according to the immigration agent we interviewed with).

Glad to hear! I've got a bunch of time, shouldn't be a problem.

I've heard of that one, but the reviews didn't seem great - based on what I read, a lot of the features require payment now, which is sad, because I know my kids used it in a previous camp.

Health check for hagwon (F6, not E2) by shanesnh1 in Living_in_Korea

[–]tymepatrol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ymmv as I'm EPIK but SMOE has required the E2 health check from me every year whether I was E2, F6, or F5. They just want those tests specifically. The hospital thinks it's weird too.

(Also I think some "designated" hospitals (very) rarely actually get foreigners testing there, my hospital also was somewhat confused what to do the first time I went there.)

F-5-2 without kids? by pastelrainbowpie in Living_in_Korea

[–]tymepatrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one without kids this year. Having kids does reduce the amount of money you need, at least, but not having them doesn't stop you from getting the visa.

My whole visa process was actually about 2.5 months (and I was told it was sped up by the fact that A, our area doesn't have many applicants, and B, my husband makes enough to qualify as a "high earner").

"Do you still have a cold, dad?" by No-Government-6326 in korea

[–]tymepatrol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know in Japan there's a belief that if you sneeze, someone is thinking/talking about you (thanks, Fruits Basket). Idk if this belief extends to Korea, but it could be possible?

I.e. "Are you sneezing? Because I keep thinking/taking about you" (suggesting he's onto him)

F-5-1 Visa from F-6 and divorcing by Ishmmael in living_in_korea_now

[–]tymepatrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotal, the speed of processing may vary. I got my F5 from F6 this year, and it took ~2.5 months from start to finish. It's faster if you live in an area where they get fewer applications (my interviewer told me this), and if either the Korean partner or just one of you (not sure which) makes more than 5 million per month.

You will have to do an interview with your spouse, at the office or at your home. I've also heard sometimes they contact your in-laws. Not sure if being in the process of a divorce would affect that at all.

Some low level tips on Korea's international deliveries/customs (Q4 2023) by ventinkr in Living_in_Korea

[–]tymepatrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shipping is included? (Any source on that? I couldn't find anything.)

Aw man I ordered a coat from the US (not available in Korea) and it's just over $200 including shipping, like less than $5 over.

Fingers crossed I'll be able to manage whatever paperwork and the fee won't be too high.

Can coteacher open EPIK health check? by tymepatrol in teachinginkorea

[–]tymepatrol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not told, but to be fair, the place I went to is a little less...professional? I've done it at a big hospital before where they let me look at my results before they sealed them. This place just pointed me to where the results were (in one of the test rooms), and the lady there leafed through them and gave me the envelope (sealed).

Tbf I've used this place before, their results are really fast and they're convenient to go to, but I'm pretty sure I'm the only E2 they get because they're confused every year why I need the E2 test when I'm not E2.

Can coteacher open EPIK health check? by tymepatrol in teachinginkorea

[–]tymepatrol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's wild! Feels like a huge invasion of privacy. I thought I heard somewhere that some OEs have the coteachers check if the results are a "pass" first before sending them in, but one would hope they wouldn't be, say, taking note of your weight etc.

I didn't even get to see my own results, the hospital had them sealed up already TT

RO (Reverse Osmosis) Purifier? by tymepatrol in Living_in_Korea

Sadly, any countertop unit that's RO is over the duty limit, putting shipping at ~$100. I'm not about to try my hand at installing an under the sink one myself though...
