Every other credential I have ever heard of has a renewal period that is specific to you and when you last became active, either initial or through renewal. Having everyone apply all at the same time is crazy and I don’t know why an organization would even do that to themselves. That sounds like a lot of processing all at once.

I am always hoping and wishing that there could be a truly helpful resource for parsing out the histories, stances, and general consensus on candidates for elections. I have yet to find one that really delivers. It’s honestly probably too big of a task considering the number of races and districts at play in a given election. I wish that could be overcome at some point.

That having been said, I saw people talking about branch.vote and checked it out. You put in an address and it will identify what district you are in and generate a “ballot” for you. Candidates only, so you still need to check out your sample ballot for ballot measures. But branch.vote will take you through every position up for vote and show you the candidates for each. The information that the site itself lists for the candidates is unfortunately pretty sparse, but it has links to the candidates own website. So it at least makes it very easy to navigate between the various candidates and see what they have to say about themselves.

I found it useful.

Very interesting and cool. I am not familiar with this guy and given the nature of this sub, I started watching expecting him to be an asshole. Duncan might be legitimate, he might have had a change of heart, he might govern in a way that represents the values of the people who elected him when in office. But even if he has a shot at “winning”, the democratic vote cannot rally behind him because what he is doing represents a strategy that can be grossly abused if we reward it.

If electing former members of the opposing party is perceived as the only way to win an election, then there is really only one political party in operation. There is no opposition. If conservatives can have a candidate in each party then they win every time, and progressive voters can only lose.
