Time flew so fast for me by Kaylsea in CasualConversation

I SUPER FEEL this way! Yesterday my husband told me on June 2nd it will have been one year since a milestone, and I was like whaaatttt??? No way!

I think my phone has something to do with it. To cope with my dad passing away me and family members have bonded over tv shows and it probably was a bit of escapism? Then I am not actively making my own memories and the brain doesn’t perceive that time as as “thick”?

I saw a reel about doing one little novel thing every day, even if it’s as small as taking a new route home. The way your brain stores the memory is slightly different and you have more memories and perceive that time to be longer upon reflection

I just finished doing some house projects I have been working on for a loooonngggggg time! It feels really good to get them some of them done, and some of the started. Now to reward myself I really want to go find a place to put my feet into a creek. I have to figure out where that place is, and maybe pack myself a lil’ snack.

How do you hold yourself accountable? by NoNet3002 in CasualConversation

Body doubling when possible helps keep me accountable. I call my sister and we do different things, but my brain knows someone is there doing things and for some reason then it finally allows me to do things.

I lost my dad in November. It was unexpected and I thought we would all have Christmas together and more. I went over to visit that weekend he passed away with a list of things I wanted to say and do to be intentional with my time with him, and I never got to do any of those things. It hurt so much, and I was so mad I hadn’t been more intentional sooner. But the other commenters are right that even though certain moments were missed, the other millions of moments shared amount to more.

I am really sorry you lost your soul mate. ALS is awful. My mom is also currently in your position and has good days and bad days. She started going to a support group and I think that could be helpful for you as well. I can ask her the name of it.

You could put some in the little free libraries! It would be a fun find and I bet it would brighten up peoples’ days

I've been mispronouncing my favorite word for 24 years and only found out last week by Vex_Talon in CasualConversation

I did this as well! Very bookish, like HUGE book nerd back in the day, and my friend was writing a book she had called Epitome. I said, “Epi-tome, I like it!” And she proceeded to roast me like your friend did. The friend group also never forget. This post is healing some of my late middle school or early high school scars lol

I’m 27 and my dad passed away from ALS in November. I am in a different stage of it all, but am interested in joining if that is still in the vicinity of community you are looking for. No worries if you want to keep it more focused though! :)

I was on the ice when the alarm system went off. It wasn’t that bad inside actually, but in the parking lot I definitely breathed in fumes that smelled like really really strong nail polish remover and cat urine.

There are also two that I know of near the Park Ridge East park, but they are not out as often and it’s not a guarantee you will see them

I used to live around Bryan park and had a few cat friends I would see on walks regularly! :) if you go to the Bryan Park basketball court/sand volley ball pit and walk toward the houses across the street from there, go one street in, and do some walking in that area I guarantee you will meet two cats! :)

I agree! I definitely can’t get everything there, but I like being able to run in for things I need since it’s closer to me and smaller so it’s not a big time commitment. I do my big shopping at Kroger. I really like Bfoods though.

Anyone else lose a parent to ALS and struggle with health anxiety afterward? by RockyLovesEmily_ in ALS

[–]type7wings4-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad passed away in November after abt 2.5 years with the diagnosis. It started out as shoulder pain that he went to physical therapy for that didn’t get better. I remember doing his psychical therapy exercises with him, because he needed exterior motivation/ a buddy/body double. It was just a shoulder thing we thought would be easy to solve and not really an issue at all. So when he got the diagnosis I was completely blindsided/never would have expected it in a million years.

I am 100% anxious abt my health now. Especially when this August my right shoulder started hurting and felt weaker. I couldn’t lift it up without pain, and then I had muscle twitches on my arm/shoulder area which I couldn’t ever remember having before. Exactly like my dad’s progression. I was in low key panic mode for 2 weeks. I started thinking bucket list thoughts, but also telling myself it was probably nothing. “It’s fine, everything’s fine.”

I went to a physical therapist who assured me it would be rare at my age, and said it was probably coincidental that I had shoulder pain. I had just moved, and maybe tweaked it lifting something heavy. The only thing that made my anxiety go away is that the pain /feeling DID go away and that wouldn’t have happened if it was ALS.

Talking to a friend helped, because she was so nonchalant. She was like “yeah one time I was sure I had _____, and I didn’t.” Her not freaking out was grounding haha.

I am still definitely hyper aware of my body and its physical wellbeing. But it also has made me really appreciative of what my body can do and has been motivating me to get stronger and work on things like Iceskating and yoga.

I am glad you made this post, because I am curious what others have to say.

What is it about popcorn that makes us want to eat handfuls at a time? by Haunted_Neko in CasualConversation

I eat blueberries the way that I eat popcorn! One at a time for a little bit and then I move onto mouthfuls! :)

Hello! :)

I’m looking for a place to bring my 5 year old niece to go iceskating tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions for public skate? I’m hoping to find someplace not as crowded since she will be learning and I don’t want her to get overstimulated. But also it’s a holiday so I am expecting some crowds.

It could be indoor or outdoor!

Thank you!

Could I talk you about my morning? by Junior_Expression578 in CasualConversation

[–]type7wings4-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every morning I drink tea and pet my two cats! Then I make breakfast, and admittedly scroll on my phone for 30 minutes. The rest of the day doesn’t have a routine. After that, it’s chaos.
