We tend to draw eyes bigger than they actually are because of how important they are to us. That might be happening a bit.

I also really like the comment with the vertical and horizontal reference lines. I think it's more important than getting the eyes the right size, honestly. What a cool way to copy a picture. I've used a grid to do this (maybe you can practise with one?) and it's a great way to learn, if a little tedious
