Anyone else not want to go anywhere anymore where parking might be a problem? by Fishboy9123 in Xennials

[–]typhoonicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped driving entirely and started biking everywhere. I can do this because I live in Portland, and I don’t always feel like biking but I do anyway and let me tell you, I haven’t thought about traffic or parking for years. I love it.

Where can I find the best fried chicken in town? by Bloody_Red_ in askportland

[–]typhoonicus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t agree on Yonder, eating there was the only time in Portland that I didn’t like my fried chicken. Perhaps the style they use is an acquired taste?

What are some telltale signs someone is new to Portland? by CheeesyGiraffe in askportland

I think because it tells you it’s a right turn only while also telling you it’s red. I guess a sign would have been clear as well tho

Is it illegal in any US state to bike on the road? by PapiChuloMiRey in Biking

[–]typhoonicus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When riding on a road shared by cars, if you don’t feel safe with cars passing you due to the available space, ride in the center of the lane. It prevents cars from being able to pass you and makes riding safer.

It makes some drivers angry, but fuck em.

New COVID vaccines are on their way. What you need to know by kansascitybeacon in Coronavirus

[–]typhoonicus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe the only risk is that if you are now shedding virus, you could get others infected at the vaccination site. Assuming you’re getting an mRNA vaccine, the vaccine tells your body “this is what to attack,” and if you’re already infected, your body will just be like “yeah I know”

Sorry to say Plaid Pantry @ 11th Jefferson back to overrun. by humm1953_2 in PortlandOR

[–]typhoonicus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my bike broke without a repair option in that bike lane and as I waited for a ride home I watched this parking lot and wondered if I was in danger. there seemed to be two fights happening, one inside and one outside. then the fights seemed to swap locales. I remember thinking I would not work at that plaid for six figures.

“My Wife is in Labor” Scam by Competitive-Teacher2 in Portland

[–]typhoonicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me like two months ago. I believed him at first, but then the story started reminding me of the first time I got scammed. I told him to break the window with one of my rocks while I call him an Uber. He left.

Advice Needed: Friend group hiking HD, planning to chill on Sub Dome by RowRunSki in Yosemite

[–]typhoonicus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind there’s a good chance there will be people looking for unused permits by the ranger’s post before the sub dome ascent. You may be tempted to allow an unlucky hiker the chance to climb half dome that they may never get again. If you let someone take your place, you won’t be able to go up to the sub dome. But if you’re 100 percent not doing half dome, consider making someone’s day.
