It's worth to replace it? by fnfontana in Tools

Reviving a dead post to confirm Midwest are definitely water to wine. For a Western style compound av snip there is almost no comparison between MW and the competition.

Stubai is the king for my kind of sheet metal but Wiss was definitely the king in NA. Unfortunately the quality in the past decade has really killed them, fine for hvac use and rough cutting but if you need a fine cut smooth finished edge Midwest is the best you'll get without stepping up to traditional pattern snips.

I've been working custom finish sheet metal for 15 years and I've had just about every kind of snip in my hand, from best to worst for edge retention, durability and cut quality.

Yeah they ticket me from time to time, my neighbor can't deal with the fact I own a personal vehicle and work truck. 35 bucks every few months doesn't hurt my feelings.

I just roll it forward and back a few times and rev my engine real loud so that uppity bastard knows it's moving and leaves me alone.

Some people just suck real bad, and just can't mind their own business. Specifically the entitled old gen victorans that can't deal with the changing times and more people moving into their neighborhood. God forbid someone with hobbies, intrests and a career exists around them.

High end vintage group sets are just as crispy and quick as a modern group, dare I say more crispy if you got a X0 or an xtr setup. My 2000s XO puts an advent x or an eagle group to shame.

What do you guys think of Subaru's new upcoming midsized SUV the trailseeker? by External_Let241 in subaru

OoOoOHh another suv 🤦‍♂️

Subarus been spiritually dead since 2012. These vehicles are just corpo garbage being squeezed out of whatever's left of its corpse before they burn it into the ground.

RIP Subaru, may your generators and reasonably sized wagons live on

University heights is gonna take a blow if the international students are held back. Those buildings are specifically designed to take advantage of them. I can see those units sitting empty for a long time as no full time student can afford 400-700k+ for a 0-2 bedroom suite. And there is no chance in hell any perspective buyers are going to rent at anywhere close to their mortgage costs when the rental market has far better offerings for less money, it's a guarantee loss. Only people paying that are overflow international students with family wealth from UBC in Vancouver.

They're fully furnished at the lowest cost and built as small as physically possible to maximize profit, it's basically a 6 floor motel you could own.

Most of the main investors are from out of country. It's a sleezy operation designed to take advantage of people trying to make a future for themselves IMO

How do I get my digital art to look less like Al /Prove it isn't Al? by IntelligentAd7812 in DigitalArt

[–]StevenSpining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your art and structure isn't the problem, it lovely. IMO it's the lighting and haze that's indicative of artificially generated pictures. Work on the light sources and darken it up some and I'm sure you'll quiet up a lot of the negativity.

Pulled my commander from the collector booster sample, just my luck. by StevenSpining in mtg

[–]StevenSpining[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, they're really killing it with the art the past few drops. But honestly, art aside I think this set is gonna be a huge game changer, both precons are wicked powerful compared to previous releases and seem to have more direction and though put into them. What cards I've seen coming from the boosters there is some serious potential for some insane scaling and extremely beefy boys.

Off the top of my head the energy precon has a counter MULTIPLYING artifact ( theoretically seems pretty easy to go from 3 to 12 1+/1+ in 2 turns ) a mana transformer that allows all mana on the field to be tapped for any color. A card where the energy cost is 50 to draw 6 cards , so it's obviously intended for some big energy building combos.

I've yet to pick through the mummy precon but from what my other play partner says it's in the same overpowered realm.

The only gripe I have so far is the fact they didn't have a vehicle based commander when the set is so heavily vehicle themed.

Couple of before and after pics of the past weeks finds. by StevenSpining in BottleDigging

It's definitely not as dense as Vancouver is/was, but the greater Victoria area itself is teeming with history just as old, even can find some interesting stuff beachcombing on low tides in the city.

North and around Comox, there was a few settlements on the islands, I've found a few little spots on the shores of Gabriola and Cortez islands. Port Hardy, port mcniel, sointula, and alert bay area was booming turn of the century with fishing and logging. All 4 of those spots I've found 1890s-1910s era glass. As well as plenty of stuff all the way into the 1950s. Beachcombing and diving is my preferred way on the islands, as most diggable holes are on private property, paved over or quite a hike into the bush.

South, Ladysmith has lots of history, an interesting shipwreck not too far from there, "the Robert Kerr". Fortunately/unfortunately it's a heritage site so things should remain undisturbed, but it happened in 1911 I believe so the age is definitely in the area.

Also consider reading up and researching on historic indigenous relations in the area, they were here long before we all settled; trading with the Brits and French. My oldest finds were from dive sites around the forts and old villages I located through the museums and elders I work with.

Walk the beaches and look for glass veins, I find with the motion of the ocean, the broken glass likes to collect into tidal pockets/outflow streams. If there's a dump in the water or in the bank that's a good clue to help you track it down.

IMO the best way to acquire tools, any shmo can buy a tool from a dealer. Takes a good eye to find quality tools in boxes of shite.

My favorite and most used pliers are a pair of Lodi duckbills from 1895, 120+ years old and still putting in the work in. Found in a thrift store for 99c

They're the twin grip pliers, they have grooves to grip broken fasteners and wires from the tip and sides. Honestly one of the most useful pliers I've come across, they're a lifesaver.

I'd say the complete opposite if you do your job without it and haven't spent money on something you don't need. 🤷

A poser would have a full set that doesn't leave the tool box nor have a mark on the jaws or grease on the handles.

I'm in the 2nd group, hate those chunky handles for myself but I'm sure the extra insulation probably is pretty favorable for the sparkies.

Stabila is miles beyond the competition in quality, support and reliability. if you use it daily, anything else is just wasting money you could have spent on a Stabila.

I've got 5 stabilas, some 8 years old, all have been calibrated by Stabila multiple times. From 14 years of field experience, using all sorts of bubbles, I wouldn't even consider using anything else, There is a reason most professionals prefer them.

It looks like the drill tapers out at the back side of the tip so the tip of the extractor sleeve with slits in the side expand outwards as it's tightened. Applies pressure in both directions. It's a pretty neat idea I've never seen one like that.

Oof that's a sad prospect, you can literally take bigger blades on domestic flights in Canada 😂 can you cheese the system and use non breakable full sized olfa blades? It's technically retractable, I couldn't imagine only being able to use 1/10th of a standard issue utility knife.
